How to introduce a puppy to my diva cat?

I have waited 51 years to have a dog and at the end of this summer we will be having a puppy... a breed allegedly good with cats (and he/she will be born into a home that has cats)

However I am realistic.. Obie will wander off to Thelma's if he is cross, but Ophie... my ultimate diva , is not going to be pleased. Her domain is the living room and downstairs bedroom and I plan to keep it that way, pup will sleep upstairs with me (for ease of toilet training so I can wake when he does) but obviously will be around the house in the day.

I KNOW she will be scared at first, and cross, but as a family we have waitied a long time for the circumstances to be right to take on a dog, but I want to make it as easy a transition as possible . Isuspect she will hide, then eventually put the puppy in his place.

I'm thinking ahead as the puppy isn't even born yet (planned mating of a particular breed to suit our lives and my ds2 who has autism) but if anyone has successfully integrated a dog with their cats... tips welcomed!

Pretty much you have to let the cats beat up the dog and then let them get on with it.

s you say. Ophie will put it in its place and that's that. Pecking order established. You never know. Obie might become its best friend and reform his cheating ways.

Funnily enough he likes the neighbours' dogs! And to be fair.. he couldn't get on worse with a dog than with our Diva girl. She is a gorgeous cat but she is SO horrible to Obie!

I thought ophie was going to live with your DD?

Ultimately yes..as she adores my daughter and her partner and has chosen them over me Sad ...but they aren't moving out yet.. they are saving and may be here a while!
