Cat ran over

I just found my neighbours young cat dead, hit by a car. I wasn’t certain it was theirs as it was bigger than I remembered and there are lots that have similar markings. We live in a street full of cats.

While my other neighbour brought out a blanket I stupidly ran to get the other neighbour who had to see his cat in that state.

Why was I so bloody stupid? I should have covered it. Christ. I feel terrible. And what sort of bastard runs over a pet and drives off?

They had to see it though, you’ve got to get them off the road.

I’d want to know if mine was run over.

Yeah, I know. I panicked. Horrible for them to see him like that though. Poor kitten. DD also traumatised as she saw everything and I was covered in blood. Just awful.

Just awful and sad. Sorry for everyone involved. I don't think there's ever a nice way to deal with these things.
Annoys me that people don't stop in these situations either. I realise there isn't always much can be done but surely show some compassion.

Thank you for caring. I'm sure the owners are grateful you got them and understand how traumatic it was for you and your poor DD.

How awful for you all and hope the driver gets some comeuppance x

I think you did the right thing. If it were mine I'd want to quickly remove him. In case be for run over again by the next car. You did nothing wrong, you're just feeling guilt because you had to give your neighbour very bad news. I'm sorry that you and your daughter had to see that.
