Cat keeps crying for daughter

Mumsnet cat people please help me.

My daughter (9) has gone on holiday for 5 days with some family. She went last night, and all he has done is cry. He was really wailing this morning, I ran upstairs as I thought he'd hurt himself, but he was sat on her floor looking at her bed. I gave him some dreamies and he perked up.
I got in from work and he started to look for her, and cry for her.
They are so close, he let's her carry him round like a baby, and he really cuddles in, it's so cute.
Will he calm down in the next few days? She gets back at the weekend and then goes away again early next week. I can't listen to this for 2 weeks 🤔

His must be heartbreaking for you - poor wee kitty!!

I think all you can do is give him loads of attention and cuddles - Is shouldn’t last the full time, he is calling for her, my little monster does the same. If you think of it as him shouting rather than crying it’s easier.

My cat also shouts for missing family members. Give him extra fuss til she gets home. It's rather lovely that they have such a bond.

Give him something with her scent in to lie with/on.

Cats are generally more place orientated than people orientated. Try to distract him. Maybe put treats in a ball sort of thing. Keep him occupied. He should settle.

My elderly cat cries most nights so now she has a light on all night and radio 4! Calmed her a little but 5 times last night she woke me up. It's awful when you can't do anything

It might also be a good idea to get her to cool the affection for him when she comes back for the weekend so it doesn't start all over again. Easier said than done, I know. Maybe you could feed him etc. Just for this weekend.

poor soul, what a wonderful relationship they must have. can he sleep on her bed, wrap him up in one of her jumpers or something that smells of her and lots of extra cuddles and treats. i hope she doesn't get the cold shoulder when she gets home.

Thank you everyone. He sat on me last night which is very unusual, and then he slept on her bed. I will just leave him too it, give him cuddles and hopefully he will cheer up soon.
