Automatic cat feeders

Does anyone have any experience of using a timed automatic cat feeding device?

We're planning to go away for a few days and I need to leave out a wet meal, including painkiller for arthritis, for the first morning we will be away (I have a friend able to come in twice a day after that). I've heard that some tick loudly, which I imagine could be off putting. Can anyone recommend a good one which doesn't tick?

We have the PetPod digital one, it's a bit more expensive but is the only one my very determined, greedy cat never managed to open too early! (She used to break into the cheap one easily.) It's very quiet as well.

I've got the catmate C20 which I love and trust. I've also got a cheaper Trixie one. I have got the c50 5 meal one, but it's really difficult to set and I don't trust it.

We had an auto feeder that popped open. The cat learnt how to open it by using his claws to lift the kid and his teeth to drag the tray out.

I threw it away.

We've got the Catmate C20 as well. The only criticism (well Harry's only criticism!) is the dishes are square plastic and he prefers eating from round China. I kid you not. Other than that it's fine!

Oh Harry, your poor neglected puddy. You must move in with Snorg immediately. Though her bowls are silicone baby weaning bowls. But she has a China cup to drink out of.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I hate to say it but I don't think my cat is bright enough to work out how to open it herself!

I'm imagining Harry and Snorg having afternoon tea with their china bowls and cups!

I have the cat mate too. have a huge stupid cat and it has not failed for an overnight stay.

Another catmate fan here! It's very reliable and the batteries last YEARS. The only issue I have is that I think one of my cats is scared of the noise it makes - she runs towards it but then sits a foot away and waits for it to stop while my other cat scoffs half the food!
