Cat broke out

Got a rescue cat just over a week ago and she has settled well (affectionate etc.) My partner got home today to find she had broken out through the locked car flap (which was also blocked off). She hasn't come back and now I'm so worried; she's not meant to go outside for another 2 wks. Don't know what to do Sad

Oh dear. Don't panic. There are a few positives here, namely:

You've already had her a week
She was happy and settled
She left via the cat flap

Those are all good things and I am pretty sure she will turn up again. For now you need to obviously unlock the catflap and make sure food is left just outside the catflap constantly. If no sightings in a few days then do the posters/leaflets thing, but the chances are you will see her again within a couple of days.

I'd go out in the garden a shake a cat food sachet and call her name. If that fails leave some food/water outside and something that smells of her for her to come back to. Hopefully she'll come home soon!

I would tape the catflap open to provide easy access back home (some cats know how to get out but not how to get back in again!).

Maybe put something like blankets she's slept on in the garden and leave food out. Hopefully she will know where home is already.

I assume she is neutered?

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yes she's neutered viccat, and chipped etc. Have done all the things suggested plus go round all the neighbours and posted on local fb group. I think this crazy wind might have spooked her; I'm just hoping she comes sauntering back tmo. I'm WFH so will try calling and shaking the biscuits as much as possible. DSis said her cat did the exact same about the same amount of time after she got him and came back so I'm trying not to panic.

I'm so missing her curled up on my bed (where she's been sleeping the past week)

Any news OP? Have you done posters/leaflets?

goingonabearhunt1 · 19/03/2019 11:01

Sorry forgot to reply back and say she's returned! Thanks everyone, I'm massively relieved and kitty security has now been reinforced Grin

Great. I knew she would.
