Who else has a furry nurse?

I have bronchitis (for the second time in a few bloody months!) and my little girl won’t leave me alone. She’s quite clingy anyway (clingy to anyone who looks like they’ll rub her ears for her Wink) but this morning she slinked under the duvet and has laid on my chest for 2 hours. After one coughing bout she reached her paws out and cupped my face. What a beautiful little soul she has. Obligatory photo included. Does anyone else have a 4 legged nurse?

I had one. Never left me when I was sick in bed. Didn't mind being shoved aside as I dashed for the bathroom etc. If I fidgeted other times she'd leave me but not when I was ill.

Moanymoaner123 · 10/03/2019 08:44

That is adorable! What a lovely nurse to have

ChesterGreySideboard · 10/03/2019 08:46

When I was little we had lots of cats, about 10 (large farmhouse out in the country). If I was ill mum would ask if I wanted a nurse cat to keep me company so one would be brought in.
Someone being in bed during the day was a real treat for them so I used to end up with two or three.

Espressomartin · 10/03/2019 08:51

Aside from the ill part, that’s heaven Chester! Also when my partner’s dog was nearing the end of her life, my cat used to lie as near to her as she could without actually touching her (they hadn’t known each other long so just really tolerated each other). It’s very heartwarming

I do. Whatever hurts, he lies against it.

When my daughter is having a seizure, he lies next to her.

I adore him. He’s kept me going since my mum died in October. I have a chest infection now and he’s on my knee, purring his deep purr.

This was him the other day when my hip was giving me gyp (arthritis).

Me!
I've had a double ear infection (almost completely deaf at the moment) due to raging tonsillitis and an infection that landed me in hospital on a drip on Thursday.

This is my Furry nurse, Rolo, which has been great while DP is at work because I hate being alone when I'm poorly!

Here my other furry nurse too. I'm both a cat and dog person!

I think the NHS would save so much money if they just issued everyone with a cat Grin.

Yes my little cat is an amazing nurse!

She seems to sense when my anxiety is high and will not leave my side, she climbs up my arm to sit on my shoulder whilst rubbing her head on my cheek. She is a little love and I don't know what I would do without her. I can even forgive the curtain shredding...

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 10/03/2019 09:04

my first cat would do this....get as close as possible if I wasn't well. His favourite was to wheedle under the covers and lie back to back if I ws on my side. Otherwise he'd usually be round my head, or snuggled under my chin

idiotcat just likes to have company in bed, so it's not so much nursing as being sociable. He used to purr in my ear if I was in bed with a migraine. The downside of his nursing is that he is overly fascinated with the sick bowl, TMI warning.... so you have to be careful not to actually vomit over him as he tries to see what is in the bowl or where it is coming from. Wee mink!

My best nurse was my GSD, to be fair he was barely ever more than six inches away from me at any given moment, but he was a needy and slightly neurotic type, however he would change into a calm protective, all watching supportive critter if I wasn't well.

When I had the flu and dh put the sofa bed out for me, the dog would lie right alongside me, watching me. He didn't even leave me to check in when anyone came in the house and have a woof at them and that was his most favourite thing apart from watching me!

I really miss him.

Thank you Espressomartin. She loved animals too.

Minkies11 · 10/03/2019 10:23

Both my cats nurse me if I am ill - they are outdoor cats and dash out for wees and poos then back in to get back to guarding me. Love the little critters.

ElfrideSwancourt · 10/03/2019 10:25

I have 2 furry nurses--have been off work all week with a horrible tummy bug and my Dcats haven't left my side (apart from waiting outside the bathroom while I was vomiting!)
I'm not convinced having 2 cats lying on my stomach was that helpful, but the thought was there! 😁

Cats are way more in tune with their humans than we realize. When I had abdominal surgery my cat, who normally leaps onto my lap the minute I sit down, didn't even attempt to sit on me for around a month, just sat next to me. I work with cats and was just reading a new study on cats with stress cystitis, the study found that an overwhelming majority of the cats had owners who were on medication for anxiety or depression.

Maia never left my side after I'd been in hospital having treatment for MS. I'm not sure Cheddar and Magic are quite so caring!

Espressomartin · 10/03/2019 10:53

They’re all beautiful! I used to have a house rabbit who liked to be stroked but didn’t sit on you. But every night of my pregnancy she’d hop up onto my lap and lie against my stomach. Aren’t animals the best.

My female cat, Ruby wouldn't leave me alone when I was pregnant. I had to sleep downstairs on the recliner at night coz I suffered from bad acid reflux, she used to sleep on my lap at night not leaving my side, sometimes she tried to get on my bump but I wasn't having that lol

HelmutFrontbut · 10/03/2019 14:31

These stories are all so lovely 😻 Cats on prescription should be a thing Grin

When I was moping after a nasty relationship break-up my dearly-departed old boy used to follow me around, catch my eye then dramatically fall to the floor with a huge thud - so hard it would knock the breath out of him Shock It was so comical I couldn't help but laugh; he'd never done it previously so I was convinced he'd developed this technique specifically to cheer me up. He was a nutter Grin

Espressomartin · 10/03/2019 15:08

A slapstick cat! I love that Helmut!
