Hello, hoping for some advice please. I’ve had cats all my life, have worked in a shelter and fostered lots of cats but this is a problem I haven’t had before and really don’t know what to do.

We have 13 year old neutered male tabby. We’ve had him all his life and adopted him and his brother as kittens, although his brother died some time ago.

He’s extremely needy with people and will ask for fuss all the time. The problem is, he attacks me! I’m very used to shy cats, feral cats, cats that decide to grab you half way through you stroking them etc but he is actually coming at me if I just walk past him, I’ve been bitten and scratched multiple times, he attacks me for no reason and seeks me out to do it.

It’s been getting worse over the last couple of years, but starting when I was pregnant with my son 10 years ago! He doesn’t do it to my husband or children but has occasionally to my mum and sister.

I don’t know what to do, I can’t ever abandon an animal we’ve given a home to but I’m getting nervous in my own house!

I should say he actively asks me for fuss, but will attack me when I stop too 😩

How long ago did the Brother die? Could it be that he is sparring with you in the same way he used to play with his brother? You have perhaps replaced the brother as his play thing.

So. I am thinking that he is lonely and bored. Do you think it may be an idea to introduce another cat? Or is that not a possibility?

Thank you for the reply, it was only about a year ago and the problem was he used to be aggressive with his brother (as well as with me!) so I’ve avoided adding another cat into the situation. It doesn’t seem playful like I’ve experienced with other cats, or fear, like with feral cats when you need to give them medicine for example. It’s very aggressive and seems unprovoked as in he will come at me proactively rather than a continuation of an interaction 😩
