Help! Release me from my stinky prison

I have two cats aged around 9/10 months.

I didn’t know it was possible to love two furry little beasties as much as I do but good god do they stink!!

How on earth do I get them to do the toilet outside? Putting the tray out doesn’t work - they just do it in the house and putting some old dirty litter from the tray outside doesn’t work either. I’m aware I need to work on this now rather than when they’re much older.

I’m fed up of the whole house stinking and there being litter EVERYWHERE. Already using a closed tray.

TIA

Use the wood pellet cat litter. Our house used to stink too till we switched to the wood pellets. It absorbs the mosture and stops the smell. Tesco sells it

Oh thank you! Will try it. Been using the anti-bac type stuff.

Really would rather they went outside though :(

Would you want to go outside to shit? It really is better to have a tray. It's better for them, better for your neighbours and you can tell more easily if they are sick. Blocked bladders particularly are much more obvious when a cat uses a tray.

Use wood pellets which don't smell, and just get rid of the shit as soon as it appears.

My pair have a tendency towards stinky poo. I have them on wood pellets and though the first couple of minutes after they have been can be hell, the smell vanishes very quickly. This is in an open litter tray too, as they won't countenance going in a lidded one.

Don't have any choice where mine go though, as they are indoor only cats.

Yes yes yes to wood pellets. There’s no wee smell at all. Obviously poos still smell, but our old male cat stunk the house out with just 1 wee into catsan litter, but wood pellets stopped that.

It’s definitely the poo that smells. Those foul little creatures - can’t believe how and they smell 🙈

You can get rotating self cleaning litter trays too, expensive, or something that trains them to use the actual loo.

Try raw feeding, no smell and smaller poos.

Try a more expensive grain free brand of food it really does make a difference
