Cat food

So ... it looks like we're getting a cat.

Very excited but have no idea what the best food is for it.

It will be over 1 year old.

Is wet or dry food best?

Any suggestions would be great.

In the first instance, you should keep your new cat on the food it's been used to (i.e. same brand and type) - it will ease the transition for the cat and avoid an upset tummy.

If you want to introduce something different once the cat is settled, do it gradually by mixing with the existing food.

Wet and dry have different merits and demerits. Wet food is worse for their teeth, but dry food is more likely to cause kidney issues in old age. I give mine a bit of both. Buy the 'best' food you can afford for your cat to keep it in good condition.

Forgot to say, congrats on your forthcoming new cat!

Thanks. I've got a dog at the moment so I think it's going to be a shock.

Will look into food. I give my dog a mix of wet and dry food so will probably do that.

I guessed from your username that you might have a dog! I've never had any issues introducing cats and dogs, I've found it much easier than introducing cats and cats, though my dog is very soft and laid back. My dog will go up to the new cat, wanting to sniff and play. The cat will make itself look big and hiss. The dog retires hurriedly!
