Just had to take a cat home. Heartbroken

I've just had to return a poor deceased cat to her owners this morning, she'd been hit by a car so I wrapped her up in a blanket and took her to the address on her collar. They were absolutely distraught obviously but for some reason I am too. They only live around the corner from me and I'm worried for my cats and the roads too.
Not really sure why I'm posting about this, I just feel so sad for the poor little cat now.

Awww, that must have been really sad. I found a dog that had been hit and killed on the road coming back from babysitting one night. I couldn't bring myself to touch him so rang my sister, who's a vet, to come and pick him up and take him to the owners. He was already stiff and it made me sad to think of all the other cars that must have driven past him and left him there. I think you did a good thing there OP.

My cat has been missing for 4 weeks. Not knowing is awful. You did the right thing OP.

Awww op, it's horrible isn't it. I still think now about the poor little b&w cat I found outside my house a few years ago. No collar and I had no idea who's it was, (this is embarrassing) I wrapped a lovely little baby blanket round her and put a little teddy next to her Blush so she wouldn't be alone. I decided not to move her myself in case someone was out looking, at least they'd know what happened iyswim. Sure enough I saw two women driving around and stopped, they were crying and collected her so I went out and explained what I'd done. We all had a cry together.

I worried about my cats and the road, so much so that when my last one died I said no more. Roads are so much busier now imo. I do think though it's quite rare though, there's so many cats around, I think we'd see many more accidents like this if they weren't as smart as they are, but sometimes they just misjudge things. With my cats I found as they got older they wandered less and less. Flowers

I still feel really guilty for not being able to pick up a cat who was on the side of roads it was almost two years ago and can't forget it. I called the council.

That was a lovely thing to do, I lost my cats a few months back (found safe and sound 3 days later) but spent all weekend looking for him and imagining him having been hit by a car and dying in some edge or something...better to know than keep hoping she/he will turn up again...

Aw that is really sad but good you were kind enough to take him home. Our lad doesn't have a collar but is chipped so if anyone ever found him I would hope they would take him to be scanned.

That was a really kind and compassionate thing to do. I can totally understand why you're upset. I would be too. But you treated that little cat with the dignity it deserved Flowers
