Cat worn all his claws away

My cat went missing on Monday night about 8. He came back 24 hours later. We were happy to see him, fed him and he curled up in his bed and slept. I’ve been out at work all day and it’s only this evening that I noticed a little spot of stained fur on his foot. I investigated his paws and he has worn away all the claws on all of his paws! Shock Front and back. There is a blister on one of his pads too. Some of the claws are just shortened, but a few of then are worn down to nothing". One of his back ones he won’t let me touch too much. There is either dirt or dried blood around quite a few of them so it’s difficult to see.

I’m assuming he must have been trapped somewhere And has worn them but scratching to get out. I’m going to take him to the vet tomorrow but is there anything I should be doing in the short term. He’s a big boy and difficult to hold so I don’t really want to pin him down and wipe his paws. I feel so guilty for not noticing this morning and taking h8m to the vet today Sad

That can be a sign of being swiped by a vehicle, he needs to see the vet asap. They instinctively put their claws out and cling onto the tarmac.

Vet here. Agree with above poster. Normally a sign of a road traffic accident as they cling to the road and are then dragged along which wears the claws severely. It's something we check for.

Oh goodness OP, sounds like you need to get him checked out Sad

Agree with all the above - sounds like being hit by a car.
Good luck at the vets.

Ours once came home with claws worn down on one paw and one claw completely missing with a bloody residue. The vet said he could have been clipped by a car & bowled over. Better to get him checked out OP.

Took him to the vet this morning. We think he was probably shut in a garage or something' no evidence of being hit by a car. His front paws are not too bad, the claws worn down to half their length. The back paws there are a couple of claws that have gone right down to the nail base and they. Are infected so he has had antibiotics. He is to stay in for a few days which he won’t li,e but at least he is fine. Hopefully he’ll learn his lesson

Poor kitty. I hope he is soon on the mend.

Oh bless him, glad he is essentially ok.
