My cat died today 😭

She went out as normal this morning and was attacked by a dog just by our house. The owners knocked on and took her to the vet straightaway whilst I followed with my children.

Her leg was very badly injured and she had bites to her stomach and chest. The vet said she was very unlikely to survive surgery and that the kindest thing to do was to PTS. I was with her and was able to stroke her and tell her how much we loved her, that she was wonderful and we had loved every minute that she'd lived with us.

I'm absolutely devastated, can't stop crying. I keep thinking how frightened she must have been and in pain.

My heart goes out to you. That must be so upsetting. i hope that dog is put down or they keep it on a lead in future. The pain is dreadful, I know. Sending you hugs.

Finfintytint · 23/02/2019 18:47

Oh you poor thing OP. That is so sad. Flowers

Hippymama · 23/02/2019 19:16

I just can't stop crying. She was the most wonderful cat. It sounds soppy but I loved her so much. I'm at home a lot so she was always with me. I was cross at her on Thursday as she pinched my tea when I went out of the kitchen. I wish she could do it again, I'd give it her willingly, anything she wanted.

I am so sorry. We lost ours last year and know that devastation so well. It is agony. The only thing that comforted us was that we know he was so happy with us, as did your little lady. And you accompanied her right to the end- she didn't die alone. Thinking of you.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/02/2019 21:03

So sorry. I know how awful it is. But at lest you were able to tell her how much you loved her. Though she will have known it already.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/02/2019 21:32

This has bought tears to my eyes.

Mine, too. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I wonder what's going to happen with the dog. If it'll attack and kill a cat who's to say it won't do it to a child.

Gligeen · 23/02/2019 21:33

Oh no you poor pet. Flowers. Sounds like she was well loved and had a wonderful life with you.

Helpmytrousershavesplit · 23/02/2019 21:36

Oh no so sorry Sad Was the dog off its lead? Can't believe it can happen. Lots of dogs (most lovely soppy buggers) where I am and I do get nervous for my 2 cats.....
Sorry for your darling cat OP.

Hippymama · 23/02/2019 21:55

We live very rurally and the dog was off the lead in the field opposite our house. She was used to dogs as we have one as well. I think the dog that attacked her thought she was a rabbit and it all happened very quickly. I didn't see it actually happen, only what I've been told.

I can't stop crying. My husband is away with work at the moment and I feel so very lonely up here as we are miles from family etc. We are about to move house in a couple of weeks as well so there's a lot of stress from that. I'm on my own a lot here and daft as it sounds, she was a lot of company for me. I am missing her like mad already. I keep thinking I hear her bell or her miaow. I'm trying to take comfort from the fact I was with her at the end and I think she knew I was there as she moved her head to look at me when I spoke to her. I stroked her and kissed her and told her what a wonderful cat she was and how we'd loved every minute that she'd spent with us. She was looking at me the whole time right until she went so I think she knew I was there and that we loved her.

The fact that the dog thought your cat was a rabbit doesnt excuse it being out of control.

Doobydoobeedoo · 23/02/2019 22:03

I'm so sorry, Hippymama. Flowers

It's not at all soppy to have loved her so much and I'm glad that you had the chance to tell her so.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 23/02/2019 22:08

Oh how sad. My kitten died in similar circumstances last year, only it was my own dog who caused it. Finding it hard to live with her now but also can’t bring myself to pts a healthy dog.
Hope you can fill your mind with happy memories and not dwell on what ifs

Chlo1674 · 23/02/2019 22:09

Oh I’m so sorry OP. Your poor cat. You clearly love her very much and I’m sure being able to hear your voice at the end brought her comfort.

MrsCatE · 23/02/2019 22:13

I'm so sorry Hippymama you obviously loved her very much and have her the best life and a safe end. I really feel for you. Flowers x

Vinorosso74 · 23/02/2019 22:43

I'm so sorry that is just awful. I know it probably won't help right now but at least you were with her at the end which would have been some comfort Flowers

timtam23 · 23/02/2019 22:50

That is so sad, I am really sorry. I'm sure she knew you were there and was comforted by your voice and presence.

madcatladyforever · 24/02/2019 07:03

Oh Hippymama I'm so sorry you had to go through this and you are in my thoughts today. Lots of hugs for you.

PlanetJam · 24/02/2019 07:11

Oh I am so sorry to hear this. Cats are part of the family and I know exactly what you mean about missing her in the day. I work part time and on my none working days I love having a little companion around in the house. She will have known how much she was loved and you were there with her to the end. That will have been a great comfort to her.

Take care of yourself Flowers

QOD · 24/02/2019 07:22

I’m so sorry 😢

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/02/2019 07:45

I’m so sorry, that was a terrible way to lose her. I hope they keep their dog on the lead from now on. At least you were with her at the end.
