Kitten can reach the kitchen counters - need hob help!

We have a gorgeous 5 month old boy and today he has finally managed to jump high enough to reach the kitchen counter tops... and more specifically the ceramic hob!!!
Obviously the aim is not to let him in the kitchen when cooking etc, but is there anything heatproof I can put over the hob while it cools down from using the rings in case he manages to get in the kitchen? Woud a silicone baking mat work?
I'm terrified he'll jump up when a ring is still hot (that's the exact spot he's jumped up twice today) and burn his paws!!!

Ours burnt a paw on a halogen hob so I made dh buy an induction one instead at the next house.

Maybe there’s a child safe hob cover?. If he does burn a paw put him out on the cold grass/patio.

Ideally he wouldn’t jump up but no amount of scolding taught our cat not to jump.

If I use my hob, when finished I quickly rinse the pan, put some cold water in it and leave it over the hot ring. So even if paws walk along the hot areas are covered

Is the glass cover shatterproof or tempered glass?.

We last two never went on the worktops, so it was a shock to find my present two do. We've had them five months, they still try it on but now understand down when I point and get down, so that helps. Hopefully the suggestions here help, but also if you have a separate kitchen shut the door after cooking so he can't gain access at all.
