Desperate for help with my kitten

Desperate for advice from some cat experts:

Please help me someone!

I have a kitten that we collected a few days before xmas. She's now 4.5 months. I had no idea you couldn't change foods and unfortunately I did when I brought her home.

She has basically had diarrhoea since that day.

I was given advice about 3 weeks later to starve her for 24 hrs then start on science plan but feed every half an hr little and often. This worked but I cannot do it indefinitely! As soon as I try to up it she goes back to runnier and runnier poo. I have tried plain boiled chicken, which again she has no diarrhoea on but same as above when I transitioned slowly back.

Science plan kibble makes her fart, gassy, and have mushy light brown poos. That's if its spread over 6 meals a day. Anymore and we are heading towards liquid poo.

She's on pro kolin, I've tried another pro biotic and she's so far cost me over £300 in vets bills about this issue.

I'm so, so worried about her. I have no idea what to do.

Yesterday I tried to transition her to grain free wet- disaster. She had liquid diarrhoea and her stomach was going crazy. Her poor bottom was leaking and she has obsessively groomed all day. She's calmer now as I haven't fed her since 2.30pm.

I'm at my wits end! Luckily my works quite flexible but this can't go on! It's taken over my life and the stress that I'm making her I'll is heart breaking.

She is not going continuously usually. It's just eat - have diarrhoea- eat - have diarrhoea.

The one thing I'll say about today is although the new food definitely disagreed with her, her poo was darker, more normal colour. She's been very yellowy brown on science plan kibble.

I have no idea where to go from here. I feel like a damaging her.

She is playful and seems happy enough ( apart from today with that crazy tummy)

She's itchy though which I think is just part of the intolerance.

I'm so heartbroken, please somebody help me make my beautiful kitten better.

Thank you

Has she been tested for giardia?

brownmare · 07/02/2019 22:30

I have cats with food allergies and Science Plan didn't agree with them either. Mine presented with skin allergies mostly though.

I think I'd try introducing another food gradually, if she's okay on chicken then I'd give that with a little of the new food added and see how she goes, there are loads of sensitive foods to try. I find the Logic paste is pretty good too.

Strangely enough mine does best on the ordinary Purina dry cat food and Felix as good as it looks, which is the total opposite of what you'd expect, but it works for us.

I hope things settle down for you both soon, her worming is up to date I assume too?

Cheddar was vomiting almost every day and had smelly watery eyes. I tried all the posh food with no effect so thought I'd give Sainsbury's wheat free a try. £2 for £2kg. She was a different cat within days. She is now on iams vitality as snorg prefers it. It's also wheat free and been fine on that.

Take her to the vet.

Mia184 · 08/02/2019 07:36

Correction to my previous pist:

Take her to the vet asap. If your cat had diarrhea since Christmas, she is probably seriously dehydrated by now which could harm her kidneys. Take her to the vet today.

Take her to the vet

The OP has been taking her to the vet.

Take her to the vet and get some proper advice ASAP. Diarrhoea can kill a kitten very quickly.

ifonly4 · 08/02/2019 07:57

Do you know what she was on before and if she was ok on it?

Felix AGAIl upset my boy - someone said it was the vegetable filler element but he's fine on ordinary Felix. It might be a case of elimination, try different brands of grain free.

picklemepopcorn · 08/02/2019 08:10

Try her on home made food. It's much easier to work out what the trigger is when you are making the food. You have to add Taurine though, I believe.

Join a raw feeding group and get some help there.

I had a similar story with my pup. Researching the best food to settle his tummy, I came across whole prey model raw. Best thing ever.

Mia184 · 08/02/2019 08:44

Soup, I missed that bit, sorry.

OP please take her to a different vet. Has her poo ever been analysed?

viccat · 08/02/2019 10:56

I think rather than trying more and more new foods it would be worth having the vet test for parasites, especially giardia.
