Letting cat out after GA

I posted previously about my cat being a bit off her food. It turned out she needed very expensive dental work, which was done today after a week on Metacam because they couldn’t get her in sooner. She’s been home since about 4, was initially a bit groggy, but now has eaten and seems fine - although clearly furious with DP who took her to the vet! She is desperate to go out, but the vet said 48 hours - although the paperwork they gave us actually says 24. She only goes in our garden or next door, both back gardens so no cars around. When would you let her out? We don’t have a catflap, but she likes to go out first thing in the morning, then in the evening is used to trotting in and out. Will 24 hours be enough? She hates the litter tray and is used to going outside.

Definitely not before at least 24 hrs from getting home. She'll probably sleep quite a lot later. She's just throwing a tantrum because she went to the vets but for her own safety she needs to be kept in and keep an eye on her.

In my experience they are usually quite energetic the first evening at home (from the drug used to reverse the anesthesia) and then sleep a lot the next day. They can be a bit unsteady on their feet to begin with as well so jumping on fences etc. wouldn't be particularly safe.

Give it at least 24 hours and then see how she is.

Thanks. Good to know the 48 isn’t strictly necessary. I feel so sorry for her, she keeps going to the back door, and obviously doesn’t understand why I keep saying no. Wee soul!
