Kitten bum nuggets

I’m fostering some very young long haired kittens and they haven’t got the hang of cleaning themselves. How do you deal with clumpy fur round their bum? They are being wormed and have a bit of the runs, and then the cat litter sticks to them! It’s grim!

I’ve got a tangle spray and a special comb but there are still some lumpy bits.

Also they get food in their chin fur too! Any advice?

Wet with warm water cotton wool and take the nuggets off, a different piece of cotton wool wet again and wash the chin fur, as it is fairly wet it will kick their instincts in to groom around there, (hopefully)

As being wormed and having the runs, stimulate around the pucker with another wet piece of cotton wool, it will help get it out easier and to keep off the litter tray depending on age, how about crating them overnight - 2 to a cat carrier as very young lined with a puppy pad as they can do their stuff and then you just fold up and dispose of,

Longer term, but Ive no experience with long haired cats it might be good to consider a trim at back end but others might have better ideas

Best of luck

Thankyou! I’ve had a gentle go with some damp flannels but there’s still a bit left. The bottom of one of them looks a bit sore and despite being very playful, one of them is breathing a bit fast compared to the others.

They are only 5 weeks, and are all in their own big crate thing, snuggled up in a ball together.

i used unscented baby wipes which helped a lot

Pictures please!!! Of kittens; not bum nuggets.

My cat is short hair so don't know if my approach is better. I dampen loo roll with warm water and swipe over offending area. If that's not acceptable, I get him to sit (years of training) and strike like a ninja and place wad of loo roll under his bum. He is a massive, neutered Tom, almost 9 kgs; 8 of which are teeth and claws.

Get the vet nurses to give them a hygiene trim. Speaks from painful experience of sticky poo and long haired Persians!

Random question but could it be the cat litter not agreeing with kitty bum as esp as kittens they tend to literally lie down in it, I use non-clumping generally but on the very rare occasion I had to use otherwise, she got a sore bum from it

If changing types of litter so they recognise the tray, hold a couple of scoops from the old tray and mix them in with new litter, it helps carry their scent and is familiar so the new one isn't strange

5 weeks old, how lovely. Yes, you need to post pics. It's the law.

I love sniffing kittens paws - they smell like biscuits.

Good idea about different litter. This stuff seems quite fine and it’s like they’ve been dipped in chopped nuts when they’ve been in there!

It’s as though someone flicked a switch in the night and they have gone from being pretty, wobbly little balls of fluff to extremely active teeny demons! Random toe attacks, leaping off the sofa, rolling around with each other in head locks, it’s non stop!

Butter wouldn't melt!

They are adorable!
Definitely second the bum fluff trim though. Our Persian still gets disgusting if she doesn't have the long hair around there trimmed.

TheQueef · 28/01/2019 12:58

Scissor trim of offending area to stop stinky clinker.
I just wanted to say stinky clinker

One of mine used to step in their poo as they were trying to cover it up so I had to rinse paws and bums under the tap.

As that burst of energy is there, try putting a table tennis ball down on the floor and watch the mayhem commence

I paid £50 for a full groom yesterday. Wasn't allowed to stay with her so didn't get to do a full inspection until I got home. Noticed that not enough hair had been removed from her back end. Introduced new food yesterday and had to cut dried nuggets off. Oh well trip to the vets to get it done properly
