Can we get a second cat?

We got 2 kittens from the RSPCA last September, brother and sister. They loved each other. Very sadly the sister was hit by a car and died this summer (very quiet road so very unlucky).

The boy we have left is gorgeous, so placid and calm. He has a cat up the road he hangs out with but doesn't get on with next door's Siamese at all. I don't think he's lonely but he's taken to sleeping on top of our rats' cage - he doesn't see them as prey weirdly!

Does he sound like the kind of cat who could cope with a new one? I don't want to stress him out or drive him away.

And would the RSPCA let us rescue another cat after what happened?

Oops forgot! Here is the smiley cat. I will say though, that he's not that bright. We put s painting of an owl up on the living room wall last week. He's just come in and got really freaked out by it Grin

So sorry you lost your little kitten.

You sound like a wonderful pet owner and I am sure a local shelter would be able to advise you on the best temperament and age of cat to get as a companion.

I know my cat would gphate another cat doming into the house - but yours seems to welcome company.

Sounds like he would be fine with another young cat.

Is there anything you can do to make outside access safer? Is your house detached or a terrace? Catflap at the back?

Thanks for responses. We're detached, with a cat flap at the back. The day the kitten got knocked down I'd let her out the front because she didn't want to use the cat flap due to next door's cat prowling around. Boy cat is out the front all the time though, he goes everywhere.

I just don't know whether it would be nice for him or not. My sister brought her house rabbit for Christmas and he wasn't keen!
