Cat seems constipated

He had a huge poo yesterday morning and squeezed out some bodgie nuts last night, but keeps going to the litter tray and producing nothing. He still seems to be weeing (he wees in a different part of the tray). He made a loud and distressed yowling noise last night and honked up a large fur ball and some froth. He seemed better after that, and like his normal self, but we have had several more unproductive trips to the litter box. He doesn’t seem to be in pain - he’s on my lap purring and is eating and drinking normally. I’ve given him some katalax in a lickylix equivalent - what now? Just wait and see? Or find a vet? We have just moved overseas and not sure where the nearest vet is.

Is he peeing normal amounts when he goes? Just checking in case of bladder issues.
With constipation you can give lactulose but I don't know what amounts are recommended. Feed him only wet food with water mixed in.
I would also look up vets in case it continues.

I think so, re pee. The vet did a wee test before we came out here a few months ago, and it was fine. He seems to have calmed down a bit now, but does keep washing his bum.

Lactulous is usually 2mls. Id take him to the vets. My cat suffers badly with constipation. She ends up really uncomfortable with it. A micro enema might be enough to get things moving.

Mine had same issue. I know how distressing it is to see them continuously go to their tray and strain. Luckily, I had some high end gastrointestinal sensitive wet food and fed him that and stopped his dry stuff. I also sneaked in a bit of flax oil. He was back to normal in a couple of days so fingers crossed for yours.
