Cat allergy with a pet cat...any tips?

How do you cope with cat allergies?

Have been diagnosed with a cat dander allergy, not surprising as I already knew I was allergic to dog dander. It isn't anything life threatening, just eczema and general hayfever like symptoms (no asthma).

We have an air purifier and fancy Dyson hoover. Dp grooms the cat regularly outside and diligently hoovers inside. Cat not allowed in bedrooms.
I limit contact with the cat (even when he makes the sad face...).
Take anti-histamines if need be.

Anything else anyone suggests?

Petal Cleanse or similar allergy wipes helped here. Dp is mildly allergic but becomes acclimatised in time.

I was about to recommend petal cleanse it really does work well. Keep o brushing, take antihistamines and believe it or not as said you will become used to it without any side effects.

Thanks both, petal cleanse it is. Are they wipes for me or cleaning wipes?

You wipe the cat with them!

Do you have a male or female cat? I read that the allergen is in the saliva of the cats, so when they groom themselves it releases the allergen. Male cats have more of the protein in the saliva but getting them neutered reduces the allergen.

Male cats can be lazy buggers with grooming too. Licking one paw counts as washing 🙄

I see I'm too late - I knew someone would have beaten me to Petal Cleanse Grin

Male neutered cat who does seem to spend a fair amount of time grooming. I think it’s worse in Winter as he’s inside a lot. In warmer weather he goes out a lot more.

I can’t find Petal Cleanse wipes anywhere, just the lotion. I can’t see the cat tolerating the lotion....he barely puts up with being groomed with the special gloves.

I'm allergic and have gained 4 cats. I take anti histamine tablets but have found that eventually I have become immune to mine, so just persevere is my advice.
I keep my tablets handy for a flare up but other than that Hoover daily and my cats are all outside cats 😊
