Cats poorly eyes urgent or not?

Cat has come home after being out for just under an hour with a gammy eye. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him too much. I don’t know whether to try cleaning it or if there’s something in it it’ll get pushed further in and damage it.
No other signs of a fight with another cat but he’s black so doesn’t show up easily.
Do I need to find emergency vet tonight? Won’t be easy as on my own with DCs in bed. Or will it keep until tomorrow?

Don’t try to clean it. You might make it worse. Get the cat to the vet first thing tomorrow.

Ok thanks.
Bit worried about work as had a lot of time off recently but doubt it’s going to get better by tomorrow.

Ours went like that on a Friday evening. Cat seemed absolutely fine just funny eye. We sponged a bit with salt water. No better after 3 days. Poor thing had a huge grass seed in there! In theory we could have seen the seed & pulled it out ourselves if we knew better how to examine him.

Considering how much ours hate going to the vet, I don't regret waiting to see if it could sort itself.

Mines not good at letting me near him so if I want to examine it i’d have to pin him down. What did the vet do? I’d tried shining torch on it but he seemed sensitive to it and ran away.

DH took cat to vet. From what DH said, vet gently pulled corners of cat's eye back in each direction, then saw the edge of the grass seed (barely). Pulled it out with his fingers. We had pulled eyes back a bit, but afraid of doing it wrong. I think cat did have antiBs afterwards, to be sure all safe.

This happened with my 10m kitten a couple of days ago and the vet told us she had bacterial conjunctivitis, probably scratched her eye and we've been given eyedrops and it's looking better now after 2 days

One of my Persians is forever getting eyes like this. A week of chloramphenicol drops sorts her out. I e taken to keeping the used bottle as I'll always need it again. Vets won't let me have it without her being seen.

Oh dear. That does look uncomfortable. Sorry, no advice but think you should get him to vets as soon as possible. Fingers crossed not serious. Flowers

I looked a bit like your cat a few weeks ago when I got something into my eye an my bike commute home. I thought that I would be able to get it out and was rubbing gently to move it towards the corner of my eye. Well, I ended up having to go to the hospital late at evening to have that thing removed and then had to take antibiotic eye drops for a week because I had scratches on the cornea due to me trying to get that thing out. So if your cat‘s eye has not improved, please take it to the vet.

Woke up this morning and they are perfectly clear. Very random! He must have given them a good clean over night. He’s out at the minute and he’s just passed by with a new friend so maybe they had a spat. Just relieved I didn’t need to take time off to go to the vet. Will keep an eye on it just in case it returns. Thanks everyone, it’s always nice to come here and get a second opinion and some reassurance

Glad he is ok apparently if you suspect a grasseed never pull it out yourself as they are often barbed

My black cat was prone to getting hair in his eye making it gunky so I used to wipe them one day it was a grasseed fortunately his eye had coated it so I didn't damage his eye

I've got three black cats now one is always
Getting swollen eyes his brothers "punch" him he ends up looking like Rocky balboa
