Breaders

What kind of communication do you expect from a breader if you have registered interest and paid a small deposit ? I'm after a Maine Coin and paid a deposit in August. One litter has been born and given to new homes but other than a few Facebook posts I have no idea whether I'm being considered. They state it is in order of interest.

Is this the norm?

Have you been in contact the the breeder directly, ask them how their system works, have you been to visit them and seen their cats.

You paid a deposit for a kitten without any idea when it would be born??? Surely this should have been discussed when you met the breeder

I've been in contact. They said it is in order and preference dependent on what was born. They suggested end Dec or April dependent on all above but I have had to chase for any indication of likelihood for Dec and got re told the above. I knew I wasn't going to receive one in December because all the people that have have posted in the Facebook group.

They have good pedigrees and feedback and a good following.

I usually rescue so not sure of the breader process.

It was only a £50 deposit.

Are they registered with the cat breeders association, there are a list of registered breeders and the Maine xoon cat club who also have a list and rescue centres.

I keep thinking of cats coated in breadcrumbs! How can you be sure they are actually maine coon cats? Have you been to see the parent cats? Are they legitimate breeders?

IceniSky · 07/01/2019 18:52

They are registered with the International Cat Association but not the Maine Coin Vat Club.

They have lineage, awards for some if the cats, and kittens are registered. They screen etc and have been around for 30 years. I guess I was expecting more communication. I've already complained once.
