Obie ! Just picked him up..he's stuffed his face and gone out. I suspect he'll be back shortly when he realises Thelma isn't home (or he'll go to no 3 house) and it's freezing out :/

I am disgusted with the vets though. Last year with my old vet, I was charged £160. He sadly retired and the new franchise has taken over and they charged £299!!!!!!!! I'm going to find somewhere else, especially as I never see the same vet twice and they push for expensive tests for Portia when she is 19 ...

He does feel fab though! Now if only he'd learn his lesson and let us groom him...

He needs a jumper!

Soubriquet · 03/01/2019 17:26

OMG!!! What have you done to poor Obie? GrinGrin

Bless him. Send him here and I’ll make sure he’s pampered and wearing a nice thick jumper

Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2019 18:13

Poor Obie!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2019 18:13

£300!!! WTAF! Did you get an itemised bill?

StillMedusa · 03/01/2019 18:39

Toddler yep...
Sedation... £102.67
Hospitalisation (ie keeping him in overnight last night to starve him)
£37.98
Grooming £158.91
Total £299.56

Shock

I've already rung round a couple of alternative vets and am going to register them tomorrow with one recommended locally!

Poor Obie. He does not look happy. I agree you owe that vet no loyalty.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/01/2019 19:12

When our cat had his dental two ga cost £80ish.

He is rocking the bald look.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2019 20:23

Keeping them in overnight to starve him? I'd never allow that. When my two had to be NBM they both were. It was never a problem as they never used to ask for food. However I doubt Cheddar would be quite so accepting!

StillMedusa · 03/01/2019 20:40

Toddler we have to do that because he eats in at least 3 or 4 houses that I know of!!! Two are great (his second and third wives and we are now friends) and wouldn't feed him, but the other house has actively tried to steal Obie... and they won't answer the door when I knock, and were once spotted putting him their car...luckily ds1 saw them! The KNOW he is owned and loved :( He's a greedy unfaithful beastie and goes into any house he chooses and we can't risk it before sedation.

My other two cats ARE faithful thankfully :D

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/01/2019 21:01

Why on earth were they putting him in their car?

Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2019 21:20

Good point OP. I'd hate to have to share my cats with anyone!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 03/01/2019 23:13

Wow Shock Grin

How long does it take to grow back?

StillMedusa · 04/01/2019 10:03

He starts looking like a cat after about 10 days..at the moment he feels like a shammy leather :D
After a month he is a short hair and he looks and feels fab... he becomes much more affectionate too, which is odd. Takes about 4 months to get his full coat..then he starts to matt and at 6 months we repeat! His sister on the other hand has THE fluffiest huge uncut coat because she lets us groom her!

Soubriquet · 04/01/2019 12:42

Would he tolerate one of those grooming mittens?

Start with it when he’s like this and keep on until he’s used to it

Bribe with dreamies and freshly cooked chicken?

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/01/2019 13:25

He's absolutely incredible! Do you have a picture of his fluffy sister for comparison?!

MashedSpud · 04/01/2019 13:37

He’s gorgeous.

My cat hated being groomed. She would bite the comb/brush/mitt and run off and hide. I started offering her dreamies while grooming her and now when she sees the comb she runs up to me and purrs as I’m grooming her and no treats needed.

StillMedusa · 04/01/2019 15:17

Gareth I'll take one later today (she's out at the mo) She is VERY fluffy... and a total diva. If Maria Carey was a cat....

OP posts:
GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/01/2019 17:45

Do they sit on your lap? Grin

I'm transfixed by the big breeds. I'm used to 4/4.5kg male moggies Grin I've never even owned/been enslaved by a larger than average moggie. It must be like having a mini lion in your house!

Mariah Carey in cat form Grin
Do the pair of them get on?!

StillMedusa · 06/01/2019 00:24

I've been trying to get an Ophie shot all day...

Here she is..including a butt shot for fluffiness!
She is not pleased about being picked up without her permission though Grin
She's 6.1 kg, so small compared with Obie. She's the worst diva... seriously, she has a special fluffy throw on each sofa and if it is too crumpled she shouts at us until we smooth it down for her. She hates her brother (used to like him til he smelled of other houses, now hisses at him, and he is scared of her)

She is a lap cat, or she lies next to us, rolls over and expects to be groomed and worshipped. Obie snuggles near but not on us.

They are both talkers, he has a ridiculously high miaow, and she talks constantly... you can have a full two way conversation as she answers :)
They are great personalities!

What a beautiful girl! Is she your old girl? She doesn't look it.

StillMedusa · 06/01/2019 12:12

No my old girl is Portia... who is a tiny (now skeletal, sadly) little tortie.
She's about 2kg . She's very tatty now but until about a year ago she was very perky... and feisty! This is her when she was still fluffy...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/01/2019 12:31

Oh Portia! Those eyes! I bet the other two obeyed her every miaw.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 06/01/2019 13:23

Ophie is divine! Love her diva catitude! Poor Obie getting hissed at Grin

Has Obie noticed he's missing his coat or is he quite chilled about the whole predicament?!

Portia must be teeny in comparison!
