Cat cones, should I try one?

I have a BSH cat who about a month ago had a nasty gash under his chin and a little scratch near his right ear.

We took him to the vet and he was given an anti-inflammatory jab and they cleaned up and shaved his chin. This has completely healed. The scratch got worse.

I reapplied his stronghold, wondering if there was any little blighters that were causing him problems and used the stuff the vet had given me to clean his chin and it looked much better.

Yesterday it was just a scab, a big one, but it looked clean and a healthy, healing wound. Today he's scratched it off and it looks a mess again.

I don't really want to take him back to the vets, although I will if I can't home heal mainly because its clean and doesn't look infected and I once spent £40 at the vets to be told he was just grumpy Grin

I was wondering whether to try a pet cone, would that work? Or any other suggestions.
