Naughty behaviour at mealtimes

Every time we sit down for a meal our 10 year old boy is scratching and biting my legs incessantly. I have tried putting food down for him at the same time but as soon as he's wolfed it he starts again.

Of course I can pick him up and shut him out but wondered if anyone had any ideas about why this has started.

Is it new? Does he have any other symptoms, for example has he lost weight?

When a senior cat is suddenly more ravenous, hyperthyroidism is always a possibility and will need a blood test at vet's to diagnose.

It's new but I wouldn't say he's suddently more ravenous than usual he has always pestered for food and is quite a chunky cat (half bsh). But now you come to mention it, I did look at him on the stairs this afternoon and think "hmm, you look a bit less chunky than usual".

Probably worth checking out. I have always tried to limit his food because he is a large cat. 7.5kg but he is physically big so not a very fat cat.

I agree with viccat - this is typical of a cat with thyroid issues, so get him checked out. It can be treated with meds if that's the case.

With thanks. Will take him to the vet pronto.
