Cat is hurting others but doesn't seem intentional?

We got a cat recently and he sits on others and clenches his claws up, like scrunches them up when sat on people suddenly and leaves wound marks even when done under fairly thick trousers, along with stretching and the claws suddenly popping out and scraping others, we have quite a few wounds.

Is there any suggestion on how to prevent the marks, maybe discourage the claw clenching/extending when sat with people or are cat owners covered in marks and scratches and nothing can be done?

We have a blanket so far we put on the DC when handling the cat, the claws don't go through that but don't have much else in the way of prevention, TIA.

I meant is it a usual thing for all the scratches/marks and we just have to deal with it.

Do you mean like kneading the paws?

Lap blankets are your best bet if so.

Is he making biscuits, look it up on YouTube. Your vet can show you how to cut their claws, have you got scratching posts he can file his claws on. Picture please, that is MN rules.Smile

We call it purdling and all cats do it.. You just have to put something on your lap to protect yourself.

It's kneading. All cats do it, one of ours does it lightly and the other has us looking like a pincushion.

Cheddar does it on my face and neck. It's bloody painful. She's the most placid cat ever, and it's lovely to know she's a happy girl.

Blankets or throws are the best answer to this. It's normal. If your cat is likely to spend more time outside in the summer, this might blunt his claws a little.
