Is this weird?

Couple of cats come into the garden every day, dd (9) has fallen in love with 1 in particular. He was nervous at first but now sits on her lap and loves a fuss.

Both cats are ravenous, if I sit a full bin bag in the garden while they are around they’ll rip it open before I can get it in the bin, although they don’t look underweight. 1 is clearly unneutered. After knocking on doors it appears they have owners, although she said “yes they come here” and joked I could take them if I liked. So I’m wondering if they maybe just feed them rather than let them in house?

Anyway dd is struggling with mental health lately and this cat has been the best thing for her, we don’t let it in the house so she sits out for hours everyday with it. We have our own cat but it doesn’t appreciate attention so much...

Would it be really strange if I said to the “owner” how much dd loves him, so if they ever have to think about rehoming him in the future for whatever reason we’d happily take him in?

If someone said that to me about my cat i’d be a bit Hmm, which is why I’m asking here 😁

Of course you should say it. And it really sounds as if the other person just feeds them rather than considers themselves the owners.

I wish I’d clarified when I spoke to her. Next time I’ll see her I’ll say, and say how strange it sounds so I don’t seem unhinged.

He could be starving as needs wormed or something, I know I really shouldn’t but we do give him biscuits as feel he’s so hungry.

Just want to take him in and get him neutered etc. We do have a cathouse in the garden which he seems to use.
