Stinky ear - cat scratch and abscess

Notice my cat had a bit of bloody inside his ear and it smelt bad so took him to vet last night. She was brilliant and cleaned it up and gave a shot of long lasting antibiotics. I'm supposed to clean the wound with warm salt water to try and keep the wound open. DCAT is eating and running around outside and seems well in himself. This morning I started to clean the wound and a spurt of green pus came out which I managed to catch with the cotton wool pad. Have bathed it again just now but he's getting a bit pissed off with me now and has gone outside in a sulk. I'm worried as I have to leave for a funeral abroad (flying out weds and back Thursday night) so will not be there. Have booked him back into the vet Monday morning just in case as his ear is pink but not as smelly as before. Anyone else had this with their cats?

Haven’t had it but I wonder if the vet could give him an antibiotic to help heal it up faster, especially if you are going to be away.

He had an antibiotic shot last night and some metacam. Am debating whether to give him another dose of metacam tonight if ear still pink and wound still oozing. But oozing is good! Want it to drain and not crust over until infection has gone. It's in a tricky place as well Sad

My vet always suggested Epsom salts dissolved in warm water to bathe the abscess in as it helps draw out the pus (bloody works as well!)

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT let said cat LICK any off..

has flashback to when my dad soaked the dogs back many many years ago with it to help clear up a bite she had from next doors evil Yorkie and she licked the Epsom salts water off ...

bites back of hand and rocks back and forth at memory

so much... explosive poos....

Thanks re:Epsom salts - I don't have any but will try and get some. Just hope he'll be alright over the weekend as the vet is shut now. I can't keep him inside (such a lovely day today as well) as he goes mental and gets distressed so hope I'm done the right thing keeping his routine the same.

Yes, oozing is good and also good that he’s sulking. Grin Hopefully he’s on the mend!

Thanks - usually pretty capable but having a wobble today as I'm on my own and have to leave them for the first time. Great timing!
