What on earth is this?

I found something on the floor that looks like a little kidney. It has blood on it and there is a small dark green sac by it full of dark green liquid. I called the vet immediately and they suggested that if both cats are fine and not showing any signs of illness, wait and see if it happens again, collect it and take it in to show them.

Any ideas?

I had a cat who used to eat all of his prey except some of the innards. Could be it's not from your cat but something they've caught. Do you have a photo of it?

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/12/2018 23:13

Well the sac filled with green liquid sounds like a gall-bladder. It can’t be from your cat so I suspect it’s something he/she has brought in.

It's a mouse stomach! Google images... I had a cat years ago that would leave these for me. Lovely.

LonelyOversharer · 17/12/2018 23:17

Um, one of your cats has caught and eaten almost all of something. If it was a rabbit then the innards will be quite large. If they are pocket sized, think mouse or shrew. They eat all the fur, bones etc, but leave the stomach and some other nasty bits.

My old boy also leaves one eye ball. Like he forgets he doesn't like them, eats one, goes yuk and spits the other out.

Have your cats never done this before? If they are inside cats then they sourced said vermin from inside! Have you a hamster? Best check it's still there if you do.

Oh my goodness! I think it is! I have been madly searching the internet for images of parasites in cats and finding just thin worms, but having googled the mouse stomach this looks exactly like it.

Oh, and it's only really horrific if you step on the offering before you see it.

No they are both indoor/outdoor with a microchip cat flap, but they normally bring me the whole bird/vole/mouse.

Yabu to not have shown appreciation for your gift!

PutDownThatLaptop · 17/12/2018 23:26

ha ha I must thank them sincerely, especially for putting it on the brand new cream carpet. Bless their paws. Xmas Smile

Ours always leave this bit. If you accidentally tread on it it really stinks...
