Is anyone experienced with sphynx cats?

We have recently rehomed a 18 month complete male sphynx. He has settled really well, happy to be bathed etc. I am wondering whether to get him neutered and if so when. Also diet wise I have continued the food he was on previously but have read stuff about high protein and raw meat dirt being good for them.

Thanks in advance.

Had two, they need a lot of feeding. hairlesscatblog.com/best-diet-for-sphynx-cats is accurate.

Get his balls off as soon as humanly possible, or he'll be an absolute nightmare. No worse than any other breed tom, mind.

@madbengalmum you have one don’t you?.

Madbengalmum · 16/12/2018 11:23

Fluffy, yes I do. Get him sorted asap. They are an extremely loving, giving breed, but also pretty high maintenance! Mine is not solely raw fed, he eats a mixture of cooked fish, meat, high quality dried and wet food and between them they also enjoy some raw meat and fish. I also provide a probiotic for him as it helps keep his skin and tummy well. It is excellent and he loves it, its called Fortiflora. Oh and don't bath too often, only when absolutely needed. Here he is with one of my bengals.

Thank you so much! He is booked to be neutered and we are changing his diet gradually. He has settled so well, really friendly and sweet

More pictures please, I adore these cats but have never seen one in a shelter. The wee baldy tails.

@Flashingbeacon if you are anywhere near Liverpool, the cat cafe there has one called Dobby.

Flashingbeacon · 19/12/2018 23:13

Thanks for the info, unfortunately that’s miles away. But I hadn’t thought to check out local cat cafes.

Flashing, just for you!

I like Sphynxes too but have never met one. A friend of Hubby's had one that he named Yoda. Yoda was too clever by half - he could open Tupperware containers! Hubby has said no Sphynxes due to the amount of maintenance required.

Definitely agree with neutering sooner rather than later as he is old enough. We had our Gatsby done about 6 months ago. Opted for laser and had no complications. This is he on the evening after surgery. Ironically he had never climbed on top of the cabinets before!

I have heard that Sphynxes are often very affectionate. They like to snuggle under the covers with their owners as they get cold easily.
