My Luna has gone missing

One of my beautiful 8 month old kittens has gone missing. She went out just after dark yesterday ( we always shut the cat flap at night) and hasn’t come back. She is the least outdoorsy of all our cats so it’s extremely out of character.

We are all in pieces. I have put missing flyers through all our neighbours’ doors - we live rurally so there aren’t that many - and posted on the village Facebook. I’ve spent the day walking round looking in ditches in case she was knocked down. Just can’t bear the thought of her cold and injured somewhere. Don’t know what else I can do. It’s been 24 hours. She’s not coming back, is she?

We lost our little cat also called Luna last year in a similar way. She just walked out one day and never came home.
We were so sad for a long time but never found a trace of her.
My children decided that she must have found a new home.
My mother's cat wandered off around the same time and was gone for days but then suddenly turned up so there is definitely a chance yours will come home.
Fingers crossed for you.

Try all the vets you can around you. Find your local lost and found pets group on Facebook. Have you tried rattling biscuits? A friend of mine found her cat by taking its sibling out on a harness. The harnessed cat’s miaows must have been recognisable as the missing cat came over

She might well come back. Mine have form. Shut in a garage or empty property.
As a child I had one return after three weeks.
Used litter? Leave it out.
Walk the neighbourhood and call out.
Call vet and local rescue in case she’s been handed in. Good luck.

Can you check all sheds and garages etc and ask any neighbours to do the same? Do you know where she likes to go when outside? Have a good long walk around as they can get much further than you think even at that age. Don't give up - she may just be lost.

Thanks for all your helpful comments. Luna strolled in at 5am as if nothing had happened! She was not cold, wet or dirty so I think she must have been stuck inside somewhere. Honestly thought we were never going to see her again. So happy!

That’s fantastic! I’m so pleased for you.

Am so pleased for you. If you really worry about where she goes try a tabcat tracker. I used to use them on mine when they were young and is surprisingly good!

Wonderful!
Just wanted to say, we had a cat go missing for 3 days, very out of character, and I was beside myself. She came home, very hungry and whiny, and I later found outside had been rescued by our fire service from a tree. She is 10, and never been stuck in a tree before, so just wanted to mention that cats really do get stuck up trees, even mature experienced ones.

Yay, that's good news 👍
