Possible cystitis in girl cat

My poor Leyla has peed several times this evening and the last couple of times there's been blood. This isn't the first time, but I can't get to the vets til Saturday. I think she's stressed from the kitten/not been eating her wet food and not drinking much water. She's eaten the Sheba I gave her so at least that's something. Is there anything I can do to help her feel more comfortable in the meantime?

Ps I've messaged the vet who will tell me if I need to bring her in sooner.

Our cat has regularly suffered cystitis, especially when stressed. We now add a couple of tablespoons of water to her wet food...and she has gone from rarely drinking from her water bowl to drinking the water from her food dish before she tackles the food. She now has capsules that you empty on to her food that are for urinary tract health. They cost about £8 for 20 tablets, from the vet, You start with 2 a day when they have an infection, then drop to one a day.

If she’s peeing blood I don’t see how that can wait until Saturday. A vet can’t evaluate her condition effectively without seeing her. Poor cat.

There wasn't any blood when I messaged the vet, but now there is. I've contacted my.boss as I think I need to take her first thing now...

I hope you can get her seen. We had a boy with similar issues many years ago. We had to take him off dried food to try and prevent a recurrence. Just a thought for tonight! She may pee in places she shouldn’t if she has this issue. Worth thinking about where she has access too. Hope she’s better soon.

Can you give her runny gravy to drink? If she isn't drinking right and harsh but lock her somewhere you don't mine her peeing on another thread I explained how my cat fused the entire house pissing on a plug socket he had cystitis too (He lived by the way)

I have an emergency routine for when mine do this - old lady and her dearly missed sister were prone.

Feliway plugins everywhere. Emergency litter tray out - usually I only had one tray but when cystitis loomed then more trays, preferable number of cats + 1. If you have it then metacam - if you don't then don't worry, I usually have some hanging around. Water bowls everywhere.

This routine usually does the trick. It probably is stress from the kitten. My two both had it on and off, either when one bullied the other or some other sort of crisis happened in cat world. Urinary diet pretty much sorted it plus 'the routine' for flare ups.

Thank you everyone for the advice! She's been good about using the litter tray so far so hopefully she'll be ok overnight. I'll put a few gravy granules in her water, thank you! Is any gravy granules ok? I'll get her some Sheba tomorrow so she'll go back to eating wet food too. I just remembered I had been feeding her the weebox lickilix so maybe she has been getting moisture, so I'm worried it's something else now :( it has only started this evening though.

@Abbsiss, glad to hear your boy was ok! But that mustve been an expensive illness..!
Leyla usually sleeps.in the box room which does have a tray in it, so hopefully she'll go ahead and use that in the night.

Well the diluted gravy went down like a lead balloon! Not even the kitten would touch it!! The vets are squeezing her in tomorrow. Boss will have to deal with it. Poor cat.

Thank you @wolfie, waiting to be seen now.

Thanks all, it is definitely cystitis. Got metacam, some capsules, and she tried to bite the vet when he gave her injection. All fun and games..!

Gravy granules may have onion or garlic in them...poisonous to cats. Plain water added to wet food will be fine.

Wolfiefan · 13/12/2018 11:53

She can’t be feeling too bad if she tried to bite the vet! Grin Hope she’s recovered soon.

Thekitten · 16/12/2018 21:10

@81byerley thankfully she turned her nose up at it! Thanks :)
@wolfie thanks! She's doing miles better today :3 it's taken a few days but noticeable difference today :3
