Outside the Box

I'm honestly at my wits end in dire need of help
I have to cats who I love dearly - for a few months now we've had issues with them going outside the box in a particular patch of carpet next to the front door

They have actually now damaged the carpet by the amount of times they've gone there and it has now started to lift up from them scratching at it
They have plenty of trays to go in and they're clean so I don't know what to do.
I've taken them to the vet and payed £100 for the vet to tell me nothing was wrong
I've done so many thing to try and stop it - different litter , putting objects where they have been going to try to divert them - but it's so difficult because it's literally right at the front door so no one can come in or out if there's an object / litter tray there

It's really starting to get to me and is almost a daily occurrence
It's destroying my home and effecting how I feel about my beloved cats

Genuinely at the point where I'm wondering if they need regimes as the stress this is bringing me is unbelievable

Are they indoor or outdoor cats? Could be a territorial thing if other cats are coming into your garden.

To be fair there are a lot of cats in this street so that's very likely - just don't know what to do about it
