Best cat litter or product to remove smell please?

We are in temporary accommodation while waiting for our house to be built. Luckily we could bring our cat. Because there is a main road relatively close by we decided to get her a litter tray, which is not something I particularly like or think is fair to the cat, but for her own safety it is essential for a few months. I had some 7 year old Catsan left over from when we'd last moved & we are currently using that, but it really stinks. I'm removing all lumps straight away & sprinkling bicarb on the tray to absorb odours but it's still quite smelly. Is it possible the Catsan has lost its effectiveness? Is there a particular cat litter or product I can buy to minimise the smell?

Her stools are a little looser than usual too, due to stress I'd imagine & I'm sure this isn't helping the smell. The poor thing can also see outside & is desperate to leave the flat so I feel very cruel stopping her from doing so. Any recommendations for something to cheer her up & minimise litter smell gratefully received. Thanks. Xmas Grin

IMO catsan is the worst. I've tried loads and think the cheapest one you can get in Tesco and Sainsbury's is the best.

Felight crystals are brilliant - the crystals soak up the wee, then lock the smell inside while the liquid evaporates. Just scoop out the poo.

I have three cats, including a kitten who doesn't go out yet, and only have to change it every few weeks.

Cat's Best Original Litter - cheapest from zooplus. I'm evangelical about the stuff! It's expensive, but if you remove the clumps every day (and flush them), it lasts for months. No smell of urine and as soon as the poo is removed the smell is gone. It's amazing.

Get Bob Martin cat litter freshener & sprinkle some on the litter every time you clear the pee or poo.

I like to use Pets At Home ultra clumping cat litter £8.50 for a very large bag.

World's Best Cat Litter

World's best or cats best smart pellets (or a mix of them, which is what I did, with some clumping clay stuff thrown in for good measure). The smart pellets track less than cats best oko plus. They are all clumping litters so you can remove both pee and poo

Thanks for the ideas. 👍 I will look out for some of the stuff to try. Already tried the litter freshener but it's not doing much unfortunately. Bought some crystal litter yesterday from Wilko so going to give that a go first.

I use wood pellet litter. No smell from the tray at all.

I've used various brands. All the same effect.

Worlds best cat litter is definitely the best one we've come across.

The £3 Crystal cat litter I bought from Wilko seems to be doing the job. That's a bit of a result. Think I'll stick with that. It doesn't look pretty but it doesn't smell, that's the main thing! Xmas Grin
