I don't know what to do

My rescue cat has recovered from the acute pancreatitis, but has kidney failure and is still losing weight. You can see it and feel it and his fortnightly checkups at the vet confirm this. He's off his buprenorphine to see how he goes, but is having Cerenia med every other day for nausea. I also have subcut fluids to administer as well, but can't get much into him as it's a bit uncomfortable.

I'm so scared about the xmas period as my regular vet won't be able to come to the house to pts if things take a bad turn. I don't know whether to have him pts before xmas to ensure this doesn't happen. He's still pottering around, but is on borrowed time now due to his poor kidney function. I don't know why he's still losing weight but it could be due to his kidneys. He had a vitamin b injection yesterday to try and boost things.

I don't know what to do. Does anybody have any thoughts?

Sorry you are dealing with this. It's so hard to know the right thing to do and when.

Has your vet given you any idea of how long he has left ? What date is your usual vet available until before Xmas ?

He has a checkup the week after next, but they only do house calls on a Tuesday. If I can keep him going over xmas and new year, it would be 7th January before the vet can come out. They'll be too busy between xmas and new year. I live around ten miles away from them. He was shaking with fear last time I took him to the vets and he battles against going into the carrier. I don't want to put him through some panic dash to the emergency cover in the event something bad happens.
