Advice on rescue cat please?

I'm picking up my first ever cat on Thursday, very excited! He's 11 months and the rescue charity have said for the first month he'll need 3 meals a day so I've looked into getting a cat sitter for the 3 days a week I'm at work to give him lunch. What age should he go down to 2 meals a day? I've got conflicting advice when googling.

We're also away for a wedding for 2 nights at the end of the month, how many times a day would we need the cat sitter to come round? I'm assuming a cat sitter would be better than a cattery at this stage as he won't have been with us that long.

TIA

When we use a cat sitter we get her to come around once a day but we use a timer cat feeder which she sets so our cat gets fed twice a day but we only pay for one visit.

That’s a lot of food, my cat (5 months) gets two pouches a day of hills and 40g of biscuits. What brand are they feeding? Cheaper brands won’t keep a cat full for long

You can just use a timed feeder for the days when you're at work.

Or alternatively just leave a bowl of dry food down for him for the day and give wet food before and after work. It doesn't have to be lunch as such.

I changed mine to two meals a day when they stopped growing, around 14 months or so, to make sure they don't get fat!

The three meals a day are for... the first month, as you said. At one year old you can drop him down to morning and evening. It's not a hard and fast date, you can have your sitter just do two if he's settling in well. Good plan to have a sitter rather than out to a cattery.

Congrats on the new kitty!

I still give mine 3 meals a day but it's 1 tin/ pouch split between the 2 cats at each meal so only 1 and a half tins/pouches each per day. I leave dry out all day.

I usually ask my cat sitter to do 2 visits a day when we're away

Thanks all, great advice. Will definitely look at a timed feeder!
