My poor cat may have pancreatitis

She hadn't eaten all day on Saturday or even drunk. Was very lethargic and reluctant to move anywhere.
So of course, taken to emergency vet. They have kept her in overnight and are doing more tests. Now they have found a suspect 'lump' on her third eyelid and need to do a biopsy.
So scared that I may never get her back again. She's only 11 and has never been ill before.
The bill is racking up as well, now over 2K! Sad

My cat has this. Caused by an infected lymph node in her neck. She was critically ill for a week. On morphine, Ketamine, fluids and antibiotics. No one expected her to survive, but she did and hasn't looked back! She never seemed unwell. The only symptom she'd had was that she was still in the same place that she'd been in the morning, when I came home from work and cried when I picked her up. She was 6 at the time.

Our old girl had pancreatitis (she suffered from triaditis so IBD, pancreatitis and liver). Apparently it is very painful and cats are good at hiding pain.
Ours recovered (she did have surgery but that was to remove gall bladder and clean bile duct).
If he's at the vets they can treat him intensively and give him some good pain relief. Hope he's better soon.

Snorgs bill came to £5k. But she did have surgery to rule out a foreign body.

Snorg sends healing purrs and strength.

How's he doing?

PoisonousSmurf · 05/12/2018 10:49

Hi everyone, thanks for the wishes for my cat.
She is still on fluids and refusing to eat, so they have started to feed her through a nasal tube.
They still don't know what's really wrong with her, as other things have started to crop up, possible UTI, heart problem (could be fluids) or even a hidden cancer in the bones!
They are waiting on the bloods, but at least her fever has finally broken!

Snorg was tube fed for a bit, her tube was in her neck. Is yours really in his nose, I didn't know that was an option. But Snorgs nose is minute!. Stopped feeding her when I realised that she wasn't eating because she was full of milk. Once she started to recover she never looked back and was full recovered within days. She's currently purring her head of next to me. So don't give up hope.

This is Jenny. Not much of an update today. They are still awaiting some test results. She still can't miaow. But she has been hissing at them lots! Sounds like she's feeling a bit better.

My cat had pancreatitis a few weeks ago and has recovered pretty well. Hope your kitty feels better soon.

I was gobsmacked when I took Magics sister to the same vet a few months later and the nurse mentioned her by name. Said I was surprised she remembered her. Apparently she was 'famous' because she survived. (And for being a sweetie.) glad your girl is on the mend. She's gorgeous!

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 06/12/2018 23:16

She’s gorgeous - my fingers are crossed for her. Are you insured? That’s one big bill!

PoisonousSmurf · 07/12/2018 08:39

Some really good news at last! Jenny started to eat yesterday and last night managed 3 small meals and sneezed out her feeding tube!
So they are going to see how she feeds today and hopefully I can bring her home tomorrow.
They had the results back and were able to give special medication. It turns out that she had a bad case of 'Toxoplasmosis'. Might have eaten an infected mouse.
It can be very difficult to diagnose and most cats are immune anyway.
But we do need to give her antibiotics by hand for a few weeks in the meantime.
Yes, we have insurance, lots of paperwork with this case!

Thanks for all your wishes Smile
