Goodbye to lovely Monkey

Today we had to say goodbye to lovely Monkey who we adopted from Battersea when he was a kitten.

He was the most patient and forgiving big brother to our LO. He was taken too soon at only 4 years old. He was such a happy city cat and very loyal. He'd always come running out to meet us on our road when he'd hear us coming back from the park or the shops. He preferred to sit on his daddy's lap but every now and again I would be bestowed a lap nap too. He would only drink the freshest tap water at home but regularly drank from the muddiest puddles outside. He was a chirpy vocal cat who loved tickles under his chin and ears.

He will be missed and loved.

Goodbye to lovely Monkey

He looks a lovely little character, losing our beautiful feline friends is always a terrible shock, he was very loved and you have wonderful memories of Monkey.Flowers

Those eyes and that face. Too gorgeous.
I’m so so sorry. They leave such a hole don’t they.

Threetoedsloth · 03/12/2018 11:08

So sad. So sorry. He was a very lovely boy. RIP Monkey.

GimbleInTheWabe · 03/12/2018 11:18

Thanks everyone. Very sad not greeting him this morning.

We think that he maybe was a victim to infesting anti freeze after reading up about the side effects and how devastatingly dangerous it is to cats. Monkey had total kidney failure and deteriorated rapidly within 2 days. So please do not use anti freeze unless you absolutely have to and if you spill even the smallest amount (a teaspoon amount can kill a cat) please clean it up. I don't want anyone else to have to loose their furry companion too.

Awww... so sad Flowers

GimbleInTheWabe · 03/12/2018 11:25

Typo: ingesting anti freeze not infesting.

Thank you @SoupDragon

I’m so sorry. I met a lovely couple recently who had lost a cat to exactly this. Heartbreaking. Flowers

Vinorosso74 · 03/12/2018 15:30

How awful. I'm so sorry. What a handsone tabby. There have been campaigns/petitions to get something added to antifreeze so animals won't drink it but sadly it never seems to go anywhere.

GimbleInTheWabe · 03/12/2018 19:18

I had no idea about anti freeze being so dangerous to animals. However, I don't own a car so I never use it. Such a cruel and unfair way for an animal to be taken. I'm sorry that so many beloved pets are meeting their end this way.

Thank you for your kind comments.

I m so sorry. Monkey was gorgeous. What a shame he was taken too soon Sad. I definitely keep anti freeze out of my cats way as she's young and curious.
If I spill anything car related or cleaning products it's wiped up in a second. It's like having a toddler.
R.I.P beautiful Monkey xx

I'm so sorry to hear about Monkey Flowers My cat sits under cars a lot so I do worry about him accidentally licking some antifreeze. I read that it has a sweet taste which makes it attractive to cats. I wish something would chamge as a result of those campaigns to have a bittering agent added but so far, nothing has :(

GimbleInTheWabe · 06/12/2018 23:45

Thank you ruby and timtam. My DDad said about the sweet taste too. Monkey was also an under car dweller so could have easily happened like that for him.

I keep thinking I see him or hear him around the flat. Poor boy, wish I could give him one last tickle and stroke whilst he was healthy.
