I was never brought up with any animals and I have vivid experience of my aunt having cats and I was clearly allergic (no one thought to give me an antihistamine!) my opinion of cats has always been really negative (not based on anything really) my son has been desperate for a cat since very young. It wasn’t until this year when we moved into a house off a main road that we were in a position to get one.

We went to cat rescue and I was still doing it for DH and DS. Even when we picked our cat. I was just hoping that he would grow on me and he certainly did.

We got him home and oh my the joy that this 3yr old boy has bought me Can not be described. He is the king of the house, cuddles on each of our laps and takes turns to sleep with us at night.

I really never imagined the joy that a cat could bring.

Picture!

Aww that's lovely!

motortroll · 30/11/2018 18:07

I was in the same position a year and a half ago (though not allergic, just knew too many horrid cats!) I love my Syd she's my little shadow trip hazard

fenneltea · 30/11/2018 18:11

Aw that's really good to hear, cats are wonderful for the soul aren't they?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 30/11/2018 18:40

Aw : ) DH was the same, thought cats were a waste of space till I forced him to live with two kittens and he fell head over heels in love with them. 14 years later, he'll sit on the floor rather than disturb one off a chair.

RebelWitchFace · 30/11/2018 19:00

OH was NOT a cat person. Didn't see the point of them and thought they were destructive, evil, not loyal creatures. Now? He talks to the cat, religiously takes his spot on the sofa so they can have their nightly cuddle and shares his yogurt with it. Hmm

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2018 19:43

I nagged a French's if mine to get a cat, he resisted for ages but then got two. He's besotted!

I rehomed a cat recently for a friend despite never wanting a cat, dd1 desperate tho! She is a house cat and more like a dog and I actually really like her, big surprise! I still don't like the hair tho and she is not allowed in my bedroom

So pleased for you and it makes my heart glad you found a place for a rescue cat. Such a brilliant thing for you to do and the more you put in to them, the more you get out. Wouldn't be without my two - they are such a comfort.

yellowDahlia · 30/11/2018 19:51

Aw lovely OP. Now could you please have a word with my DH?

I have a cat-shaped hole in my life but no chance of filling it until DH can be persuaded Sad

Saucysusieisinbed · 30/11/2018 19:56

Yellow - can you just not “find” a kitten!

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/11/2018 20:38

A lot of people need to be told they are cat people. By a cat. It’s the only way they learn.

yellowDahlia · 30/11/2018 21:04

Saucy - I live for the day I actually find a stray cat on the doorstep or box of kittens in a hedge. But perhaps you're right...I could hasten the process by "finding" one at the bottom of the garden...Wink

CantChoose · 01/12/2018 18:42

CantCat was very much for me and DH not really interested.
He's such a daddy's boy, runs to greet him when he gets home, DH absolutely dotes on him...

Ski37 · 01/12/2018 21:59

Another ‘not a cat person’ here, in fact I only adopted mine as I was desperate to have an animal in the house and I was turned down by dog rescues due to my working pattern. 100% the best decision I ever made - I fell in love as soon as I let him out of his carrier at home for the first time and he climbed all over me to explore. It’s now twenty months since I brought him home and I wouldn’t be be without him.

Ski37 · 01/12/2018 22:01

This is me being ‘not a cat person’ with His Highness asleep on my lap.

Yep, DH isn't a cat person, told me he was allergic etc etc. After 20 years together he finally gives in and lets me get cats which we've had for 2 months. Guess who spends 10 minutes last thing saying night night to them every night?

StillMedusa · 02/12/2018 01:38

My dh isn't a cat (or dog) person, but when he married me he knew it was inevitable as I have never been without a cat in my life.

These days he just sits somewhere else when one of our three claims his chair... Grin and he poo scoops the litter without complaint.

Cats have a way of making themselves adored...

Toddlerteaplease · 02/12/2018 15:57

My "I'm not having a cat" friend apparently fell asleep with his hand on one of his cats tummies and her paws wrapped round his arm. I think I melted when he told me that!
