Dcat has come through the door after what looks like his first ever fight. What looks like a bite on his ear and scratch just above his eye. Hes eating and drinking fine but he seems to know that this will end in a vet trip Grin no cat carrier today as MIL is borrowing it but will take him in tomorrow. Anything I can do to make him more comfortable in the meantime —even though he’s acting like nothing happened—

Rinse with saline? How old is he and is he neutered?

Pawprintjoy · 28/11/2018 15:56

He’s 8 months and neutered

Bless him. Wonder if he strayed a bit far and got clobbered? Or there’s a new cat about?

i'd just watch tbh, rather than a vet visit

If he is cooperative then salt water on the wounds and then make sure he is not going into a decline and wounds are not festering over the next couple of days.
Don't use tcp or the like, some of them are bad for cats.

Idiotcat and his mortal enemy have a stand off every few months and Timmy is MEAN! so my poor boy gets a right going over once or twice a year
We've never had to go to the vets with him, for a fight, but he does have a really thick floofy coat so I think that protects him a bit.

One of mine fights. Some injuries over the years have been worse than others, and he has a permanently torn ear now. None of the injuries have been severe enough to warrant a vet trip, and except for one time he's never seemed bothered by his injuries. I think there isn't much you can do except keep an eye for infection.

RibbonAurora · 28/11/2018 16:18

He'll probably be fine but he's going to need an antibiotic shot from the vet just to be on the safe side if he's been bitten.

Pawprintjoy · 28/11/2018 17:45

Up until recently he’s stayed in our garden with the occasional visit to the neighbors, we have a lot of grumpy older cats round here and he definitely is a bit cheeky Grin seems to have deterred him from leaving the warmth of the house again though!

Oh poor boy. Maybe he’s reaching adolescence and trying to mix with the big cats. Hope he feels better soon.
