Soooooo what you doing about your tree this year?

Last year we didn’t bother because the scrats were so bad climbing it all the time last year, but this year I fancy being festive.

Anyone got any great cat friendly trees or alternatives? Xx

We always have a Nordman fir, they seem to be thick and scratchy enough to deter climbing.

I gave up and have a battery operated plastic tree that is a solid plastic case with liquid & glitter inside (but I'm a philistine )

I don’t think I can face it. Two terrible torties and an Irish wolfhound.

I'm afraid I sprayed my cat with a water spray when he kept climbing in the tree. Only took 2 times before he left off. They still bat off all the low down ornaments but I don't mind about that.

I also have the issue of where I put the tree, as the only place I really have space in my living room at the mo is currently occupied by an almost ceiling height cat tree!

We have an old fake tree which is going up minus lights and decorations to see what happens. Having seen damage he's done to charger cables we will need something to put around the light cable..... I will update in December.

Meant to say tree will be decorated if it stays standing for 3 or 4 days.

We're just putting lights on the tree this year. Picking up baubles drove me crazy last Christmas.

We have a hook set in the ceiling above where the tree normally stands, and we tie the top of the tree to the hook with a rope. If we gauge the height right we can hide the rope behind our angel tree topper, and the whole thing is fairly robust. The first year I regularly sprayed the tree with orange-scented room freshenener, as he hates the smell, and it seems to have worked - he's never tried to climb it in four Christmases.

I’m in two minds whether to just go for it this year or whether to forget about it as in addition to our bauble batting, tinsel terrorising cat, DS is now a toddler 😰

I have a (very nice) 8ft fake tree, which is flocked, so the branches are more clumpy (honestly it's nice) but it means there not such obvious climbing gaps. I have a large wicker basket round the base, so you can't get directly under it, and duct tape it to the floor. Best tip though is to use green gardening wire to secure all the breakable baubles (I have a large glass collection) Neither of my two cats have managed to climb it, knock any baubles off, or pull it over in 7 years. This year is the ultimate test for my tree though...to withstand a very active 1 year old!

Mine doesn’t do climbing trees. And I thank him for that. Now roll on this Christmas when he climbs all over it

My husband keeps telling me not to put it up because the cat will just climb it. He'll be 8 months will it really be that bad? I was going to keep him out of the room it's in when we're not there ( work or asleep) will that be okay?

I am also planning on a spray bottle full of water 😂
Hopefully DS will be scared of the tree again this year so I won't have to worry about him pulling it down either

Neither hell nor high water will stop me putting up a Christmas tree so the Scaredy Cats had better leave it alone

Put the tree in the lounge last year so we could shut the door at night and separate the cat and the two kittens from it.

Going to attempt putting it it's usual place in the stairwell in the dining room where It's open access this year. I fear it may be a bad decision.

Fecking. Better check the life insurance and home insurance covers kitty, tree, water and fairy light disasters.

Fake tree from Woolworths (we've had it for 20 years and it's survived kittens and adult cats).

Based on last year...

M will climb it whenever she has access to that room (after I get home from work but before I go to bed).

Baubles will go on. M will knock most of them off. We'll put them back on again. She will knock a few of them off again. We'll put them back on again. She'll knock one or two off and then get bored.

She will then sit next to the decorated tree looking photogenic and instagrammable.
