Scared cat changed after surgery..?

I have two 6 month old girl kittens (siblings). One has always been very sociable but the other was very scared. She didn’t like any kind of human contact at all and would run and hide if you even dared to walk past her. If she was on the couch and you sat down, she’d jump off and run away.

We got them both spayed last Thursday and apart from the sociable kitty getting her cone off and ripping out all her stitches so you could see her insides (!) they’ve both been fine. But the scared kitty has had a personality change!

Now she will run up against my legs, jump up on the couch to curl up next to it on me, comes over to be stroked. She doesn’t run away and hide or flinch when you go near her. It’s just very odd.

I’m not complaining as I’m glad she’s no longer scared and I’m liking having two loving kitties. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced similar with their cats after they’d been spayed? What might be the reason for it? At first I thought she was just still a bit loopy after the anaesthetic but it’s been 4 days now and she’s still being nice and cuddly.

We had exactly the same recently.

Semi feral kitten who wouldn’t be stroked let alone picked up.

Went in to be spayed one Monday morning.

Came home that night... complete personality transplant. She now loves nothing more than a fuss and sitting on our laps, often waking us up in the night purring and rubbing up against us. This was a couple of months ago, and she’s still friendly as anything

I wonder if their focus changes from “must get out and party” to “I’ll just stay here and chill”?

Hormones, maybe?
