Kitten missing her mum

We’ve adopted 2 kittens. They’re nearly 11 weeks old. They’re absolutely wonderful both inquisitive, eating well, very friendly and playful. The little girl has these moments though that make my heart hurt. She comes up when I’m snuggled on the sofa and nuzzles her head up to my,trying to bury it in my armpit or the fold of the blanket. She starts routing around and has sucked the blanket a couple of times. She then starts meowing and purring SO loudly. I wish I could comfort her. We’ve given her a furry teddy but it hasn’t helped. I’m guessing she’ll grow out of it but any suggestions in the mean time?xx

It's her way of showing you are now 'mum' to her. Some cats continue this sort of behaviour all their lives. It doesn't mean she's unhappy, she's just enjoying being close to you - so carry on giving her love and attention and she will be fine.

Oh really?! Bless her! That makes me feel so much better,I thought she was upset. How sweet! I think I’d be a great cat mum, going to preen my whiskers now 😊

My two year old cat does this to my husband every night. Never to me. I only rescued her AND feed her 884387 times a day Angry.

It’s quite common behaviour.

My kitten does this -my last cat did it even when she was quite elderly. I think it’s cute

Cheddar is current sitting on my chest doing the exact same thing Op and pawing at my face. She does it all the time and she's 6!

Ahhhhh too cute. The first night I bought bigcat home I woke up with him sucking on my earlobe. Was the only time but very sweet.

My old lady lived until she was 22 and suckled and purred to her last day. She really loved us. And we loved her.

Oh gosh got a tear in my eye now . She has been gone two years and my heart still aches for her

retainertrainer · 03/11/2018 21:53

I’m so sorry to hear that! They really do steal your heart don’t they, I instantly loved these 2. I hope we’re lucky enough to have them for so long. Have you considered getting another cat? I know you could never replace her but when we adopted ours it was quite upsetting to see how many cats needed homes, lots of them are housed in these outdoor enclosures and with the weather changing I felt awful that I couldn’t take them all.

My cat sucked in his sleep. Like he’s got an invisible dummy in his mouth.

toomuchhappyland · 03/11/2018 21:56

My kittens do this to their cat bed. It’s normal behaviour. Provided she is 8 weeks or older, mum would’ve shoving her away and making her fend for herself now in the wild!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/11/2018 09:20

Perhaps cheddar needs a cat dummy!
