Kittens in conservatory

Hi, we have 4 month old kittens which we have been keeping in our, until today, empty dining room

We’ve had a new table and fabric chairs delivered today and they are attacking the chairs.

Would it be too cold for them to be moved to the conservatory overnight as I’m afraid they are going to destroy our lovely new chairs?

They each have an igloo style fleecy bed which I can raise up off the floor onto a sofa that is our there but there is no heating.

There’s not much flesh on kittens, I wouldn’t put a cat in an unheated area like that until they were adult and had a good thick coat on them.

Ours slept in the kitchen at that age with an oil filled radiator on low all night.

I wouldn’t put them in there in summer or winter. The temperatures are too hot or too cold.

Why do you have kittens if you don't let them live in the house with you full time? Sounds like your "lovely" chairs are more important than your kittens...

Put the chairs in the conservatory instead?

@viccat oh get stuffed. They are allowed in the house full time, that doesn’t mean I want them trashing my furniture.

Without pics I don't even believe you have kittens tbh.

Kittens have to be the most destructive beings I have met so new furniture and kittens not the best combo! I was also going to suggest moving chairs out.
Make sure they have plenty to keep them entertained but there's no guarantee they will leave the furniture alone.
Our lad was a bit under a year when we adopted him-we have teeth marks in the blinds and a paper lamp shade (Ikea stuff so nothing fancy). He is calming down gradually. Lego and Barbies have also been victims.

Our method of attack was to buy conservatory furniture (cane) for the living room. About as cat proof as you can get.

Latest kittens are using the wooden kitchen chairs to sharpen claws - cheap old chairs so don't really care but the splinters can be a problem in the morning .
I think for me being house proud and having cats is incompatible - the cats' convenience wins every time.

Far too cold for a kitten, you may regret it.
Have you got plenty of other things for them to scratch at?

When we had our last two, we got them literally this time of year at nine weeks old. For various reasons we had them in the conservatory at night the first 2/3 months and they seemed to be fine. We did have a heater on a night in there to take the chill off. I probably wouldn't want to do it in extreme though.

I have 5 and mine sleep in the conservatory, they have loads of beds, toys and cat trees and have a heater in there and I put hot water bottles in all their beds overnight when it's really cold, they also have an indoor toilet and an outdoor toilet in the garden too so are in and out the cat flap all night

Thanks all for your advice. The solution we are trying is to move them to the kitchen for night times (they have the run of the house during the day) and just keep them out of the dining room full stop.

I've seen newborn farm kittens in grass 'nests' in all kinds of freezing weathers so I can't see a conservatory being too cold. Cat beds are great but for real warmth, a simple box filled with straw is the cosiest, warmest cat bed you can get.

My kitten is in the kitchen and sunroom during the day. It’s not as cold as a conservatory but with the large windows it can get chilly.

I time the heating to go on a bit during the day and also bought one of those microwaveable heating pads _ it’s great and stays warm for about 12 hours.
