Cats less likely to cause an allergy

Dd (8) has a possible cat allergy. We’ve recently lost our beloved cat aged 16. We are devastated but looking to the future we will miss having a cat around.

Has anyone any advice re the ‘hypoallergenic’ breeds esp Siamese, Russian blue and Siberian?

No such thing as hypoallergenic. Many people are allergic to dander not fur.
The best option could be a cat in rescue that you could pay multiple visits to in order to see if it could work.

Yes I suppose the issue is it isn’t a ‘clear’ allergy like for example eyes swelling up or whatever it’s just that her asthma just is generally bad and the doctors think cat dander doesn’t help. We have a dog too who could be a culprit but he is also sadly getting old.

I would be careful introducing a cat to an asthmatic whose asthma isn’t under control.
I have eczema and asthma. I’m allergic to one of our two sister cats!
Hoover regularly.
Only damp dust.
Throws on sofa that can be washed.
Cats out of bedroom
Petal cleanse may also help.

Thanks animals always kept out of her room anyways.

It’s such a nightmare. We loved our cat so so much. I can’t inagine not having one and she was so attached to her that she’s devastated.

My DP is the most allergic person I've ever met, but bizarrely my Savannah cats don't affect him. They have a very different kind of fur and barely moult.

Im allergic to our cat. Antihistamines and keeping her out the bedroom on top of strict cleaning helps.

However, when she goes I'll never get another one. It's miserable feeling like that and I don't have asthma.

I’d like to have a cat but I’m so allergic it just wouldn’t be worth it. The extreme discomfort feeling like I have razor blades in my eyes and not being able to breathe easily would not be outweighed by the kitty snuggles.

I don't even get kitty snuggles. Mine treats me with utter contempt Envy
