On Thursday, our 11-y-old Maine Coon boy did a wee on our bed. He’d been shut in the room for no more than 5 mins (door swung closed behind him while I went to the bathroom), and we assumed he was just caught short.
On Sunday, three days later, he did it again, this time with the door propped open so he was in no way trapped. He did it in the same area of the bed, but it wasn’t the same duvet/bedding, so there was no smell of urine to attract him!
I have two theories:

The first wee was a genuine ‘accident’ (he was caught short when trapped), and the second wee was a protest wee (we’d been away on Saturday night)

He has a UTI or is otherwise unwell in some way
He lives indoors with his sister. He had used the litter tray as normal in between Thursday and Sunday. He is showing no signs of ill health (I know cats hide it well). He’s normally a relaxed, humorous, intelligent chap and, though we’d been away, it’s not unusual for us to go away so I don’t think there was any great stress happening at the time.
We’re obviously now obsessively keeping bedroom doors shut, though this is a shame as it reduces the cats’ living space.
Do you think we’re ok to watch and wait, or is a urine sample and an urgent trip to the vet required?
