Heartbroken- goodbye our beautiful boy

Need some support fellow cat lovers.

This afternoon we found our beautiful boy TC (topcat) dead in the garden. We are all devastated.

TC was a special lad. He had been a stay entire tom who we took in early this year after he'd been hanging around the area the previous year. He was a nervous lad last year but from xmas was coming more and more and we managed to catch him and get him neutered and vaccinated. He also unfortunately was fiv positive but we did loads of research and took him in with our cats and dog as he was placid and chilled. He still went out through the cat flap and lived to sunbathe in the garden and neighbouring gardens.

The vetguessed he was about 5. Since March he had doubled his weight from 3 to 6.5 kg and had transformed into a gorgeous glossy coated cuddle monster who loved laps. He took over our cat Lily's cat bed much to her disgust and loved loved to play with toys. I've never met such a playful cat. He was fine with our cats and the dog and he loved us all. A real fussy character.

Today he had his breakfast as normal then went back to bed until lunchtime when he had some bits of cheese while I made our lunch. He then went out into the garden as it was sunny at the top of the garden. About 2 hours later my dh went into the garden and called me as TC was asleep on next doors conservatory roof ( which abuts our semi) we called him - nothing, I felt sick. We lifted him down and he was warm with his eyes open.
We knew he was gone but I needed the vets to check! They said he was gone and can't say why. There was no marks on him they guess big heart attack or clot. We are devastated our poor boy. We had promised him a long and happy life. He was dealt a shit hand. I feel so bloody guilty now.

We are having an awful year. Our beautiful Poppy cat our oldie was killed by an escapee dog on our own front lawn in May this year.

Oh, how very sad. What a beautiful boy he was. You must remember though, that you took him in, fed him well, had him looked at by the vet, got him neutered and gave him a loving, safe home. He had a good life with you and was loved.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 07/10/2018 21:07

What a beautiful boy.

You must be devastated, if you can take comfort from the fact his last day was lovely - breakfast, nap, cheese, sunshine and you rescued him and gave him a loving, caring home.

TheSpottedZebra · 07/10/2018 21:07

I'm so sorry for your losses. What a shock.

He was beautiful, and you gave him a home and a family and love.

MrsPMT · 07/10/2018 21:07

Very sad, but agree, sounds like he had a very happy life with you, even though short Flowers

dudsville · 07/10/2018 21:12

I'm so sorry for you. These little bits are pure love holdings. They take a little of us when they go. Maybe his last moments were of surveying his lovely home, what a great opportunity you had to be able to love him and be loved.

RedPandaFluff · 07/10/2018 21:16

That's so sad . . . Sad

I echo what PPs have said - it sounds as if he had an idyllic time with you. And he passed peacefully -happy, sleeping in the sunshine.

A big hug to you, OP x Thanks

Icklepup · 07/10/2018 21:16

Magik1 · 07/10/2018 21:16

I’m so sorry for your loss OP, he was beautiful. Sounds like he lived the last part of his life peaceful and happy, which was down to your family. Sorry for Poppy too. Flowers

Vinorosso74 · 07/10/2018 21:30

I'm so sorry what an awful shock for you all I would be heartbroken too. Like PPs have said at least it was peaceful. It sounds like he was well loved and contented. He looked a very handsome boy too Flowers

MereDintofPandiculation · 07/10/2018 21:53

It's dreadful when they go so young. And when they go suddenly (although it would be worse if it were long drawn out) But you have made his final months happy, and far better than he could have imagined. You have nothing to feel guilty about - keep reminding yourself of how you gave him that happy time.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/10/2018 22:24

So sorry. As a PP said. What a perfect last day to have.

TamarindTapir · 08/10/2018 04:42

I'm so sorry for both your losses. I've also lost my beloved cat to a dog attack and know what an horrific thing that is. But TC sounds as though he would have known nothing but peace at the end, and as so many have already said, you gave him love and a wonderful home, and his last day sounds like a perfect happy day. You have nothing to feel guilty for - just the opposite. Wishing you strength and comfort.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 08/10/2018 04:47

In his last little while all he new was love, I’m sorry for your loss x

SecretWitch · 08/10/2018 05:16

So sorry about the loss of your gorgeous boy. His absence must be hurting your heart. I’m thinking about the wonderful gifts of home and hearth you have given him this past year. He must have felt very content and safe in his sunny garden. Sending hugs. Flowers

Rebecca36 · 08/10/2018 05:58

I am so sorry. I know what it's like when a pet dies suddenly, it's awful.

He definitely was a beautiful boy.

BackToTheFuschia7 · 08/10/2018 10:00

I’m so sorry Flowers

He was a gorgeous boy and so lucky to have found you. You’ve given him a loving home, and no doubt spoilt him rotten in the time he had with you. If it was his heart, it would have likely been instant. He probably knew nothing.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your other cat too. We have also lost two much loved cats (owned by relatives, not us) to dog attacks. I don’t think it’s something you ever completely get over.

Greekstray · 09/10/2018 22:05

So sorry for both your losses.

I’m sure they knew how loved they were. It’s a terrible shock, take care.

timtam23 · 09/10/2018 22:55

So sorry. His photos are gorgeous and he was very clearly a happy much-loved cat. He must have had a wonderful life with you xx

Harrykanesleftfoot · 09/10/2018 23:10

So sorry for your loss. You gave him and your other cat a good life and loving home. Sending you lots of hugs to help you get through. SadFlowers

Want2beme · 10/10/2018 20:25

It's a very sad time for you. So sorry this has happened Flowers

Yogagirl123 · 10/10/2018 20:29

So sorry OP what a terrible shock, he was a beautiful boy, and I am sure you gave him a lovely life. Take it easy, as grief can hit you without warning. Let the emotions out, be kind to yourself. It’s awful to lose a pet I know. Sending you a hug 🤗

mogloveseggs · 10/10/2018 20:32

Flowers that’s really sad. He had the loveliest last day though please take some comfort from that.

SingingSands · 10/10/2018 20:34

I'm so sorry Benji Thanks

It sounds as though you really gave him a lovely life with you, despite it being short he only knew love from you and your family.
