Constipated cat - any advice?

Vet can’t see him till Friday. He spent most of last night in and out of his box, producing tiny turds (he is a big cat), a small amount of diarrhoea and has just passed something slightly smaller than usual size.

I blame myself for this as DH is away and I had to dash down to see my Mum as she had had a fall, stayed overnight and just left him dry food as the cat sitter couldn’t feed him.

He doesn’t drink much. He has had two sachets of wet food this morning and one last night, which I added some water to. He doesn’t seem to be in pain (no yowling), but is visiting his box every 10-15 minutes, sometimes producing something and sometimes not. He is weeing OK.

A friend suggested adding pumpkin to his food to help him on his way. Has anyone heard of this? Any other advice? Poor love is now asleep on my chest, as he’s exhausted, but he seems content, making pudding with his paws and purring.

Try a few drops of liquid paraffin syringed into his mouth. Used to work for lodged fur balls on old girl.
Pumpkin works too, but coaxing a cat to eat it is the difficulty, easier with dogs!!
