Eyelid paralysis

Dcat had just been diagnosed with eyelid paralysis on one side. This means the eye cannot close properly. It dries out, gets gunky and sore & is prone to damage. We have to hydrate the eye with drops or gels at least twice daily. The cat HATES this. It's a constant struggle. We have to catch him, hold him and put in the drops. He's started hiding from us. The vet said this is likely a permanent condition. Any suggestions how to make his life more comfortable?
