Boosters

Can I ask if you all get your cats boosters done annually or every 3 years. We always do annually due to cattery rules but this year our cat has become unwell after his booster and it has made me think more about it, but unfortunately if it's not done annually then he can't go in the cattery which he does several times a year.

Mine are only coming up on age 2 so have only had initial jabs and then 1 annual booster. I was planning on getting them done when they are due in January too (I have a vet plan so the cost is covered by that)

Annually here although we normally go a bit longer-vet said up to 15 months is ok for booster. Obviously for cattery purposes I would make sure it was done on time.

Mine are done annually even though they are indoor cats. And the health check is included in the price anyway.

I'm about to take my two (brother and sister aged 1 yr, 8 months) in for their boosters and it's a year since they had them last. The shelter where they came from said they'd need them once a year.

We do ours every year but we stopped old cat's boosters when he was about 15 (he developed a lump at the injection site that had to be removed).
Vet told us he'd be fine as he'd have a lifetime immunity by that point anyway.

We do annually as it’s included in our vaccinations for life package but i’m not convinced it’s strictly necessary.

I've had several cats, over the past 38 years.

I had only ever had the 1st injections done, then never bothered with any annual boosters.

All of my cats had been allowed outdoors, but not one ever had any illness caused by not having injections.

My Mr Cooper was feral for 7yrs until I found him and took him in, and he's a happy, healthy 14yr old boy with no ailments at all. Here he is...

Incidentally, I've never use catteries. My cats have always stayed at home, with cat-sitters calling round

Obviously he's had his booster this year now but if he's unwell when he has it again next year then I think we'll stop and go with a cat sitter rather then the cattery.

Ours was unwell after one set of boosters, he was fine the next year.

Your vet is unlikely to agree to do a booster every three years - usually 18 months is the cut off and then you need to restart the vaccination course (2 vaccinations 3-4 weeks apart - as you would give a kitten). While the risk of catching anything is small, it can't be completely ruled out and most vet's seem to err on the side of caution.
