Can anyone recommend a cheaper cat insurance?

I know everyone says PetPlan are the ones to go to, but just got a quote and it'll be £420 for two kittens plus £100 excess.

Are there any other companies out there that are good but maybe a little less. I don't want a policy with all the works, just something that would pay for the first year of assessment and treatment.

You may be being a little shortsighted only looking at having them insured for the first year. Apart from what happens if they have an accident after that time (can be literally thousands for vet treatment if they break bones), many cats develop lifelong illnesses later in life e.g. diabetes, epilepsy, kidney problems. Decent insurance will pay for the initial treatment and the drugs for as long as they need them.

For an example, a cat I knew well developed epilepsy. He wasn't insured, and the monthly bill for those drugs alone was more than the £35 per month that Petplan quote of yours. Add to that a few cuts and scrapes that needed the vet, and she would have been quids in very quickly.

I put £30 a month into a saving account instead.

Tesco have been brilliant. I've had enormous bills with my two.

I pay £22.00 for my two (male cats neutered) per month from Argos.

Rudgie47, I've heard Argos mentioned before. Have you ever made a claim?

No Thank god, but they have good reviews for paying out like Pet Plan. I think the excess is £70.00 as well.

I used compare the market and got some good information and prices on there.

There's not much point getting insurance if you don't get a covered for life/lifetime policy... If your cat gets diabetes, hyperthyroidism or another chronic condition, you want to have insurance that will pay for treatment for several years if needed.

We switched to Animal Friends from Tesco a few years ago as they were much cheaper; one of my cats has since developed hyperthyroidism and they have been pretty prompt to pay out. His premiums are now slightly higher than for his brother but not by much (around £22 per cat per month iirc but they are getting on a bit).

We are with animal friends. It's £5 per month per cat.
Our previous cat was also insured with animal friends and had all the health problems! They always paid out on time with no problems and were great and the once we missed the deadline for claiming and they called me and said they would process it just this once but make sure I submitted on time in future. I'm sure they aren't as good as pet plan but they are super affordable and I was more than happy with them.
